Hi guys,, wondering if anyone could spare a quick min to explain a little to me about the kind of temperatures and memory I should be getting and how to record them accurately.

My laptop fans seem to go on fairly consistently whenever gaming ,,is that normal ? Even during the match engine on footie manager (which isnt a demanding game by any stretch), and it does heat up at the back fairly quickly

I have seen a few threads but not sure exactly what members mean when they refer to clocking speeds and memory etc ,, and how exactly they record them. And also how do you record them during a game,, surely if you pause and come out the game to use the program then the temps etc will go back down >>??

My graffix card is a NVIDIA Ge Force 460M.

    I have downloaded a program called GPU-Z 0.5.1

I know these are probably really basic know hows,, but if i dont ask then I wont know how best to look after it

My Senors page looks lke this,,,, I have Footie manager running in the background ,, i have noticed the Temp at 60C before after an nour or so,, is that normal ? ,, will try with a demading game like Crysis later, but if anyone can give me an idea of what i should be getting that be really helpful

    GPU Core Clock - 202.5MHZ
GPU MEM CLOCK - 162.0 ,MHZ
GPU SHADER CLOCK - 405.0 MHZ
    GPU TEMP - 50.0 C
    MEM USED 422MB
    GPU LOAD 1%
    MEM CONTROLLER 3%
    Video Engine Load 0%
    VDDC - 0.8250V

There is a very useful program called HWInfo32 ( HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools ) that will provide you with lots of information about clock speeds and temperatures. It can also log temperatures and record maximum temps. There is also a beta for Hwinfo64 - I haven't tried it yet, but the 32 bit version is very reliable.

Make sure your fans and heat sinks are clean (compressed air, while computer is off). Also make sure air can get to the fans. A little support under the back will help. Do not use on a soft surface, like a blanket or bed - temps will go way up.

I suspect your temps will be normal or nearly so. Let us know what you find out.

    All the best,

    Joe

In my system, when im playing, the fan does start up high, coz the game is demanding, BUT when i got to the menu, the fan will cease, but not stop (sometimes it will then start again). Im not sure on ur side. Btw, the game is DMC4.

stevo, in gpu-z you look at the sensors page and tick the two bottom boxes
"continue refreshing this screen while gpu-z is in the background" and "log to file"

do this and then start playing, play for around 10 minutes and then stop it.
you can then upload the log here and we can have a look at it.

a game may not be so demanding, but it will still force the graphics card to use 3d clocks... which heats up the card.

if you're worried about temps, the first thing you can do is remove the back panel and clean the fans/vents. easily done with a can of compressed air. i suggest holding the fan with your thumb while you do so since spinning the fan is never a good idea.

Cheers guys ,, I will follow your advice and tyr out on a couple of games over the weekend and get back with the results.

I dont think there be much of a problem as the computer still very new ,,but helps to get the low down on how to keep an eye on it.

Indiran ,, that sounds similar,, as when the match engine on footie mgr stops at end of game , and it go back to normal menu messages etc,, the fan stops. Didnt think footie mgr was really demanding tho as i used to play it on my old inspiron which had NO game specs etc..

Will check it out on Crysis later,,, just wondered if that was normal for the fans to be running constant ,,, Do you then set limits to gametime etc on demanding games ??,, I wouldnt have thought it be good for it playing a game with the fans running for hours ??

Both fans run at ~2,000 rpm so long as temps remain at or below 50C; they never turn off. As the temperature increases, the fan speeds increase by steps independently, i.e., CPU fan speed is governed by CPU temps; GPU fan speed is governed by GPU temps. You can see this very clearly on the Sensors tab/page of HWiNFO32.
