I've been away from home for quite some time and I'm craving scII lol...my new iPhone 4 is keeping me entertained though lol...and I tried to reproduce the antenna problem thingy and no luck. Guess ppl made it seem like it's alot worse Than it is...either that or Rogers has much bettr reception in Canada thN AT&T in the states, making it unnoticeable...love the free bumper though :D

Angry Bird really is the best app ever. Best $0.99 I've ever spent that's for sure.

Update on my 260m situation btw, called Alienware again, he wouldn't let my argument go any further without updating to the A06 bios. Did the upgrade, and the throttling went down a lot, but it still does it. Took screenshots of the throttling mid-game for every game I play. He said since they were closing, he would call me back Monday so I can report back to him. We will see what happens next.

Haha Android is GOLD man, I've currently tried Android, WinMobile, that nokia crap (symbian), blackberry, the iphone OS (but on the ipad and friends iphone's) and am REALLY looking forward to the WIndows Phone 7's. PM if you want to know what I thought of them haha... but way off topic.

Since I leave you guys start letting this thread die! No!

Update on my part, I recently received my M17x and am LOVING IT! I'm smashing my M15x score's thats for sure, but the work's harder in getting to that stage.. things felt more simple in M15x times (er.. like 3 months ago lol) ;)
I still miss certain things about the M15x though (yes that is posible). How's everyone doing otherwise?

    :( I'm not actually sad you got a M17x, I'm more jealous >.>
    How's the screen? :p
Everyone is doing fine as you can see, nobody is around, so... No news good news?

I disagree.. no news is bad, until news comes through.

Screen's er.. good, but I still feel video's looked crisper on my M15x (especially since I had blu-ray on it). Game's have no comparison screen wise. the RGB really shine's with games :D

And score's wise if you see the M17x benchmark thread, you'll clearly see I'm starting to have fun :p

Benching seems to have died down for the M15x.. I suppose that means the r3 should be around the corner ;)

I've finished both Singularity and Metro 2033. Both are pretty good games but Metro takes a little bit to get into.

Other than that, just enjoying everything my M15x has to offer =D

Hey all, just ordered my M15x yesterday. Subscribing so I can keep up. Notable specs are as follows.

    Intel Core i5-540M 2.53GHz (3.06Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)
    6GB Memory (1x 2GB, 1x 4GB DDR3)
    15.6-inch Wide FHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED
1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5850
    500GB SATAII 7,200RPM

I wasn't real hip with getting 6gb of ram because from my understanding it puts it in single channel mode, but I was able to get the upgrade to that instead of 4gb and the 500 GB HDD for $25 because they had one already built. Anyway, looking forward and can't wait to get it.

I live in California. The tech support for Alienware is based in Costa Rica, and the Critical Situation Team is in Miama (when the really hits the fan). Alienware doesn't outsource its technicians like Dell does, they are actually trained Alienware - Only technicians and they are a hell of a lot better than dell, so make sure you are calling Alienware and not Dell tech support. Trust me, at the beginning, they will tell you it's not going to happen, and the won't swap you cards no matter what. Just stick out the long phone calls and remote sessions, do all the testing, keep proving your point, and after they are exhausted of "fixes" they will eventually give you what you demand. I took a series of good screenshots which the tech used to show his supervisor, which definitely helped. I will post them in the throttling thread. Just keep trying.

For one of their diagnostic procedures, they came out and replaced my mainboard, and CPU. The system was actually much quicker and games ran alot better after they did that, did they make a revision to the mobo? Or is it still the same one used in the first waves of production?

Hey guys, I have been following the hp dv6tse thread for a long time, and decided that when I get mine, I would like to upgrade the screen to a 1600x900. Could someone give me the model number (or whatever is important) and brand of the 1600x900 screen on the M15x? Thanks in advance!

make sure you remove the service cover, then make the fans blow at the radiators. This cools really good then on my custom built cooler(almost 10 C difference). I've been looking for a spare service coder so I can mod it to allow more air to flow through

yeah i have a spare one that i drilled extra venting holes in, didn't do a good looking job but still works pretty good. got an extra 2-3 off just doing that.
so blowing at the radiator is better? was thinking of mounting it under the vents at the bottom.

Weird thing is, when I use my cooler, the GPU max temp goes up to 80 degrees-celsius, but if I don't use a cooler, my temps max out at 77 or so. I haven't checked my avg temperature, but I would hope the Avg temp with my cooler is less than the avg without a cooler.

    I've got a quick question:

I know that there are drivers listed on these pages, however, should I install them? Wouldn't the drivers that my computer will come with be the drivers I'm supposed to use? Is there anything I need to do when I get my alienware this weekend (Saturday) besides throw on some testing software and see how it does?

before swapping drivers and stuff like that. just play games if you see you get good fps and if everything is fine, then you don't have to change anything.

Well my delivery was delayed by a day, the technician is brining me my 5850 tomorrow, and since its a swap and they will be taking the 260 back, I ran a bunch of real world in games benchmarks and screenshots on the 260. So tomorrow when i receive the 5850, I will do the same with and post the results for everyone, so we can have a real world, in-game, same system comparison between the two cards.

If you can get "real world" accurate FPS on the 260, then that means it isn't throttling? If that's the case, why replace it?

this is sometimes a problem in pc desktops as well. if the front and back fans are spinning at different rpm's, this can change the pressure inside the case making the fans have to work harder. if you can change the coolers fan speed, do it, otherwise just move it slightly out of the way.

It doesn't throttle all the time, with the A06 bios, dell drivers, and rev 11 mobo, the throttling was reduced drastically. Throttles every few minutes instead of seconds, so it bounces from stock clocks, down to throttle clocks, and back up. So I took the screenies, and ran the 60 sec benchmarks when it was not throttling.

What processor do you have? The extreme? I ordered the 840. Alienware tech told me, before I even gave him my order number, that the issue only happens with the extreme and the 260 combo. Is that true?
