Woot SSD installed! My boot time is so quick holy cow. I love this thing already and I don't even have any programs installed yet. Couple of questions.

Which driver on the Dell Driver page is for the Ethernet Controller? I seem to have missed it. I think I'm missing the blutooth one as well but I think that is because my card shipped damaged and I've never used it. Whatever

I miss the Alienware themes that I always used under Control Panel > Personalization. The text size/font seems different under the standard windows config. If anyones willling to hop on gmail chat and let me copy those settings or know where I can download them from I'd really appreciate it!

Woot my hard drive WEI score went up from 5.9 to 7.8! Now my scores at 6.8 with that curse of a 260M. I know it doesn't really mean anything but does anyone know what the 5850's score is?

I'm back from my long vacation, and I have a box! I got a new 5870 in the mail while I was away, and I'll put it up for sale here first, and then Ebay if it doesn't sell here. Once it sells I'll get a 5850 through Dell for the warranty.

    Welcome back, Sirhcz0r!

So you aren't paying for it? Nice!

I'm tempted to do this but don't know if i have the patience for it >_<!

I might do so now since i know i can more than likely get away with it instead of later on when i might not be able to due to Dell noticing so many people going from 260's to 5850's :p

Anyone here in the lounge have a sleeve for their M15x? The alienware one is pretty flimsy, so I'm afraid to have it in that when carrying it in my backpack.

Thanks Smeggit, is the sleeve loose by any chance? I want to make sure its a firm fit. I'm looking through Ebay for a cheap one. I was thinking of trying the Apple 17 inch sleeve, since I've heard good things about them...

It's a perfect fit front to back and only an inch spare side to side, just enough to pinch like a handle to pull it out of the backpack ;)

try booting up using a linux live cd (e.g. Ubuntu Download | Ubuntu ). The Volume up and Volume down keys work on ubuntu, so if these dont work, then its probably a hardware issue.

Also, did you try reconnecting the cable of the touch controls?

The lights on my touch panel weren't working (although the functions of the panel were) last night, but the lights are back on now. :err:

These are really susceptible to damage. I always have a hard time removing it.

Be sure to check both ends of the ribbon cable.

Didn't ever fix it, but I got a new one that I'll sell now, and then I'll get a Dell 5850.

When you buy upgrades does Dell bring and install it similar to repairs?

Ouch dude. I feel your pain. Just make sure to take a REALLY good look at the replacement system to make sure they have everything that was in your original.

I know i was pissed when they downgraded just about everything on my replacement system sans the battery and ram.

Hey all. I'm thinking about filling the vacant PCMCIA slot but since this is my first laptop I'm not too familiar with the various devices available. Can anyone suggest any cool PCMCIA devices? At the moment I'm leaning towards a couple extra USB slots cos I found a nice discreet card that does not protrude from the lappy. USB slots are kinda boring tho, any better suggestions out there?

Edit: My mistake, the M15x takes Express Card instead of PCMCIA.

Hey guys I ordered my M15x on Wednesday, a guy from Dell called later that day and confirmed my order and said he would email over the invoice to look over etc. Maybe I'm being inpatient but i still haven't gotten the confirmation email with the order number etc. I got the order acknowledgment email but nothing since. How long did it take for your order confirmation to arrive? Do they email on sat/sun? I'm in Canada btw. Thanks.

Not a bad idea, looks like they also come in a similar non-protruding size. Tho when I get my yearly bonus this month I plan on buying a 2 bay enclosure with 2x 2TB drives. With a 4TB drive just 1 eSATA should be enough 8)

i got the lid from here:
Parts-People - Dell Alienware Laptop Notebook Replacement Parts

but they seem to be out of stock right now.

the bottom piece i got from another member from the marketplace.

i think speedy gonzales still have a lid in the market place is he does custom painting also, he is the one who painted mandrakes lid.
