Heh, I think I just bricked my M15X. Damn BIOS updates. I'll make the call to Dell soon, but for now I've got about 12 days left here in Biloxi before heading to FL for 4 months. I might have to wait to call them until after I arrive in FL, as my address will be changing then. :p

Awesome! :) Before my 'bricking' :p I absolutely loved the 5850. I was a little concerned about the new driver that came out but it seemed to be working properly. :)

Update- After trying the EC reset fix, it is still not working. What happens now is the system will power on, and then shut off, and then power on again, and then shut off, then power on once more and then all of the LED's are lit but no visual to the screen. Also the power button is still amber.

Does Alienware still build laptops over the weekend? If they don't, I don't think I'll get mind before I leave for college on Wednesday, even with NBD shipping. :(

    They don't build in weekend.
And if your computer gets built and packed after noon Friday, then it will wait for Monday morning which sucks.. They can just send it :/

I don't see the point with the warranty, I'd rather just insure it through a separate company/home insurance.

only warranty that is worth it is advanced care warranty, that covers accidental damage. That means, spills drops, hardware failure, power surges ... everything is covered. SO what does this mean? Well, get a 3 yr accidental warranty and 3 yrs down the road, when your M15x is becoming a legacy system, all you got to do is accidentally drop your M15x out of a 3-story window, call up dell, and they'll replace your M15x, with the new models they have available at the time. So if you do the math, and get a 3yr advanced care warranty, every 3yrs or so you get a brand new alienware laptop for roughly 300-400 (depending on how you hassle down the warranty price). Thats 100-130$ a year or ~10$ a month to ensure your laptop will never grow old, and you'll be rockin' a brand new alienware system just around the time its getting outdated.

Sure i lack a complete set of morals, but the world we live in is an unforgiving one, and it all comes down to:

    Scam, or get scammed.

I rather come up on top, and 300-400$, heck even if you end up paying 600$ for advanced care... is still a hell of alot cheaper than the full list price of a brand new alienware system.

Sure you can claim it on your home/theft/fire insurance, but for the sake of simplicity i'd stick with Dell.

What's the best way to accidently damage my system so they don't have to repeatedly send techs out to try to fix it, and just give me a system right away instead

Yeah, talking about unethical/possibly illegal ways of obtaining a free upgrade or new laptop isn't a good idea here. Please refrain from PMing me regarding this subject, I will not even be purchasing the warranty because I've just spent money on a new mouse, mat and headphones.

Lol what else is new... I fired up a shady topic again and people start to panic what is morally correct and/or legal. Well, while not very ethical and moral as you will be abusing the warranty system, it's perfectly legal. I actually asked Dell myself about the advanced care warranty when I was trying to get my 260m replaced. I asked "so about his advanced care warranty, does it really cover everything? Or is there some fine print that come time for Dell to service my system, they'll make up bull saying that particular situation isn't covered?" the rep replied, " no sir everything and everything will be covered"... And I responded " so even if I do it on purpose, and smash my laptop on the floor, Dell will replace my system without a problem"... And he once again responded " you are absolutely correct sir". ... And later on in the convo he actually recommended at one point to get advanced care so that if anything would happen, by accident or on purpose, Dell would replace the system with the newest system available at the time. Ok so maybe I didn't get the most loyal Dell rep, but hey I ain't gna be "scared" to advise ppl what. Dell rep advised me. Is sharing a piece of useful information given by a Dell rep not aloud on these forums? Well I understand if it bothers some of the honest ppl on these forums and I apologize for offending those of you who are, as I did not intend to do so. For that reason I will no longer talk about this topic in the open forums. Pm me for anything else you wish to know, as wattos recommended.

I just think people are too concerned on what is politically correct all the time when speaking in public or writing on forums. I say go on, speak your mind as you have the just right to do so, and no combination of words can ever prove to be 'illegal'. Immoral yes, illegal, well unless you live in a communist country, NO.

Actually they replace your system with an equivalent or better, this includes used parts too, not the newest they have. So in example if you smash your laptop 3 years later while in advanced warranty, they will most likely give you a 3rd hand(lol) system or the lowest possible at that time.
You can check the Accidental Damage Protection aggreement, it explains a lot :D oh and it doesn't cover your AC adaptor :D

The way i see it, Dell will try to weasel it's way to your money. Why not take advantage? There is hardly any Moral fiber to that company when you read about all the they have done in the past and present.

I am not saying that talking about these things is illegal. What I am saying that what you are hinting at something which might possibly be illegal.

If this is the somewhat up to date version of the dell accidental damage protection:

Dell Accidental Damage Protection | Dell

then, you can read the following:

Therefore, if you damage your system and then tell dell that it was accidental damage, you might be actually committing fraud. Obviously there is no way for dell to prove this case so you might get away with it anyway.

yeah mx-3 is good, but i'm using ocz freeze right now. and i see no difference between the 2. and ocz spreads better and is cheaper.

but check your temps first, if its good then you don't need to redo it.

I don't work for Alienware but I can explain %90 of the page very easily :D

    1) This is a "complaints" page, so there are supposed to be complaints, don't expect to find good stuff there :D
    2) Most of those people don't know much about computers and you can find out easily by questioning the logic behind their sentences.
    3) Most people are mad because they didn't read "details" nor the basic stuff even.
    4) Most people are mad because they have been told they can upgrade parts of the system later but they couldn't upgrade later.. Why they couldn't? Because their motherboard doesn't support parts that go out like 4 years after the motherboard itself, who to blame? Not Alienware's fault in my opinion, simply buyers.

And note that most of those complaints are pre-Dell era.

Also considiring how long has Alienware/DELL been operating and how many products are being sold to a mixture of both professionals, gamers and inexperienced people, there were only a few complaints.
