@ cubankid17, Your Alienware will be the best laptop you will ever own. PERIOD. :D :D :D so don't worry about it ;) You DEFINATELY made the right choice.

@ Faiz23, hows that momentus XT treating you? Was thinking of picking one up a while back... Is it really worth it over a standard HDD? How are boot times etc...??? Thanks :)

I am really liking the momentus xt but is has its application and for the m11x it is perfect since i can only have 1 HD and i want the biggest best one for it. Boot times i can not tell you the exact info but if you boot 3 times it stores common files and DLL into the flash and helps speed up boot times compared to my traditional 7200rpm. I have noticed a big difference in time for my desktop to be usable and i can open up 3-4 programs right at once upon start up and they are instant like firefox, steam, messaging and Office. I am very happy with the perfomance and the price i spent on the 500gb momentus but really wish as time goes on we see 32gb and 64gb flash memory ontop of 500gb 7.2k drives. In the m15x I would much rather loose my optical drive and slap a 60-120gb ssd as a boot and then use a 500gb 7.2k rpm in the optical slot using a caddy and then use and external slim USB bluray writer for any optical needs.

Wow man, 940XM, 8GB, 5850, 1080p.... that's a beast of a machine. I hope you'e at least considering upgrading to an SSD. If I was going to spend the money on a 940, I'd get an SSD also just to have the fastest thing out there. :p

Anyways, STILL waiting on my system to get shipped... it's spent 10 days in production so far. I guess hoping that living in the same city as Dell HQ would make my order faster was unfounded. :/

Though as far as I love my M15x, I don't think I'm gonna go with Alienware laptop again. Unless they reveal a M13x or something!
Their laptop are too big to be used on the go, and the price is much higher than a desktop for gaming. So my next computer investment will probably be a custom built gaming PC + a mid-range laptop with a low voltage CPU.
Hope I didnt ruin the party O_O Just my 0.02$

LOL...Nah Not ALL of us...I could not believe how how funky the notebook looked when it arrived. It screamed "Hasbro" with all the flashing lights and colors. RMA'd it within a couple days and looking to put together a more subtle gamer and save a pile of money with the same or better specs. Dells hold times were ridiculous as well. Took three days to get a simple RMA.

That "circus on wheels" is not for everyone. MSI looks good but they have the disco thing going on as well. At least that machine looks like less like a toy and more like a business notebook without the lights on. The have lights everywhere except the keyboard...Who does that? Even the M15x had a backlit keyboard (albeit overdone). Probably should get a Sager....just the beef.

I was a Dell fan before this experience with trying to return a product. Especially the 20% off outlet machines I never had an issue with until this one.
    .Looking
Nah not everyone will go there again......They are over priced and a tad to "Mattel" looking in person for me. MAy An alternate choice would be the Precision M6500 for someone who wants the power without the fluff.

yeah this Precision M6500 are crazy powerful!
but the problem is not the look, its just expensive and big! With the same amount of money I could have got a great laptop with a SU-something- and a great gaming PC!
    But its an alienware :D

The Outlet is the way to buy a Precision.
They had a 15% coupon for the Precision Outlet last week. I have heard Dell DOES support the Business side of things far better then Home and with US based call centers. Standard 3 years warranties even on the Outlet. Dell sells more enterprise computers then home so they are really dependent on the Business side and apparently the service is much much better,

I priced out a Precision with the following:

    Precision Mobile Workstation M6500 Laptop
Processor: Intel Core i7-820QM Quad Core Processor 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    Genuine Windows 7 Professional
500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz (2 DIMMs)
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
    1.0 GB ATI FirePro M7740

17 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LED Laptop Screen
Dell Wireless 1510 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card

Dell 420 Ultra-Wideband Wireless Mini Card
    Bluetooth Wireless Card 365

Palmrest with contact-less smart card reader
    210 AC Adapter

    125V Power Cord

    Back-lit Keyboard

Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit Operating System DVD

    Genuine Windows 7 Downgrade software

Integrated 2.0 MP webcam with dual digital array microphone

With the coupon it was $1374!!!

..I didn't pull the trigger because of my recent experience with Dell service with the M15X and I really wanted to do some more research of other brands, but the Precisions on the Outlet are way less than ordering new and very strong machines and better supported. They look like Sagers but have THREE drive bays plus the optical bay. If I do buy another Dell it will be a Precision from the outlet on the business side.

I'd also like a Precision M6500 over my M15x, but the GPU options just aren't good enough (I'll be getting a 5850 in this at some point). The seventeen inch screen, not to mention the ratio is the reason I want it. I like the M17x as well, but there's no way I'm getting a multi GPU system.

I'll wait until Sandy Bridge and get the Precision then (assuming they have new GPU options, which is very likely).

Make sure to use throttlestop to get the full potential of the processor. Either way you have to use it because it will throttle with the i7 940xm.

So I typically reformat every computer I have. Is there a ton of bloatware that it warrants this or am I pretty good? Is there any recommended tweaks that I should do off the bat? Any 3rd party drivers that I should install for the Video card like I did with my SXPS? This thing is amazing so far though, I just need to get used to the 1920 x 1080 resolution. I'm not 25 years old anymore.

You're probably lucky, I'd prefer any software with Alien in the name over one with Dell ;)

I did use Datasafe to make some restore disks but never used them, I always feel better doing a clean install.

Yep I'm lucky other than it asking me to pay for the professional version :D
Also I have no recovery options in BIOS. I can only see recovery options when I go F8 > Recovery, is this something from Dell or Windows? Because it kinda looks like a Win7 builtin feature.

has anyone got any good power settings recommendations for running off the battery? i rarely run off the battery...but when i do it'd probably only be for browsing the web, which would include viewing youtube vids and the like. no gaming. so would like it set to max the battery life during these less demanding sessions. any recommendations guys?....

    About the mid 60's.

Also ive noticed an odd buzzing noise near the front left having this noise every time I turn on torchlight and staying on. Would anyone know what this could be caused by and if i need to call dell.

EDIT: I believe its located around the hard drive so i may need to get mine replaced.

I sold my PS3 and Xbox to help pay for my M15x. I don't regret it. I was sick of paying 60 bucks for EVERY game. At least on steam I get some awesome games for 2-10 dollars! Not to mention that Concole games only consist of FPS (in my case) and as good as I am, console FPS's me off royally.... Not on PC oddly though.... OH WAIT, thats because of dedicated servers ;)

However the only game I'm gonna be playing on my PC is FFXIV and maybe cod black ops once they're released... And fallout new vegas... uhoh!

For sure, I have PS3, but only like 2 games. Paying 60 bucks PLUS Tax is crazy. Also new and good games here retail for as much as 69.99 plus 13% tax. I usually try to just buy games used from friends or something.
