for what you have now an aw 5870m which is nearly impossible to order with an M15X i would say 2.5k at least but if i remember correctly your in Canada so it seems about right.

selling it for 2.5k seems too high for a used one, sad to say this but you'll probably get half of that. maybe more if you find the right buyer but expect to lose alot.

this is not a price check section but i would imagine $1500-$1800 is realistic. I just saw a the same spec but ati 5850 not 5870 in outlet earlier today get snatched up for $1679 and a 20% coupon on top so in the end the buyer got it for $1343 plus tax and 1 yr warranty and they can get extension on top for cheap during time of purchase. Unless you have some sort of 4 yr complete care ballz to the wall warranty i can't see it selling about 2k and that is pushing it. If that is the case i will sell mine with bluray. dual drives SSD n HDD for $2.5k lolz

EDIT: Hey is that a DELL 5870m or a CLEVO. Does the audio out work over HDMI like the Dell cards

well geeze... thanks for shooting me down everyone loll

yes its a dell 5870 under warranty with powermizer and audio working over DP...

i recently got 3yr adv care btw...

Not sure if i want to sell it... but im just thinking about it... i'd probably try for 1800-2000...as i bought it for 2,500$...plus it now has a 9cell, dell 5870m, and 3yrs adv care....price seems right to me... thanks guys :)

never game anymore, so i'll probably just go for a M11x and call up my connection for desktop parts and build me one.... wtv just thinking out loud :) It'll be hard as hell to let go of this badboy though..

alright given that you have a 3yr warranty and genuine Dell 5870 with everything working i would imagine your guesstimate of $1800-$2000 is right +/- $100.

Yea but there are no outlets in Canada... Canadian buyersnhave no choice to buy new, or from third parties other than Dell if they want a used system.

And I agree with faiz, the m11x r2 is awesome and tiny...you won't find a more powerful 11inch
    Laptop... And that's a fact

Ordered an M15x a few days ago! I've wanted an Alienware ever since the first time I saw one, call it an irrational obsession, and now it's finally coming. Thanks to this forum I called up and did a bit of haggling over the phone. Unfortunately the rep was pretty stubborn about upgrading the components I wanted, but I got her down to a good price so I took it. I hope it isn't a bad one?

I tried, again after reading tips on this forum, but the rep I spoke to was giving me better prices on packages with the 260m. I don't know why, I guess they have certain packages premade and mine was one of them. What's the big difference between this and the Radeon 5850?

for gaming the difference is pretty big, i would say around 30% at stock speeds.
so get it if you can. but a 260m would still handle gaming just fine @ high/ med for most games.

hey guys, need some more opinions :D :D

i recently got offered an M17x r1 +cash for my m15x. here are the specs:

    i7 720
    8gb ram
    2x 500gb hdd
    4870s in xfire
    1200p RGB led

now if i'm not mistaken isn't 4870s in xfire only barely better than a single 5870m? I honestly would prefer 1 5870 over 2x 4870's.... that beign said, how much can i sell a pair of 4870's for? I'm not too convinced with this offer... but the amount of cash he's going to offer can make or break it.

I'm not going to lie...the idea of going for a M17x, and getting a m11x ( best of both worlds i would say) is growing on me...

I like the idea of M17x and an M11x but you are right. A 5870 is better than 4870 in crossfire. The crossfire might do better in a few games but a lot of games do not play well with crossfire or sli and then you are forced to use just a single 4870. Hard choice but, still tempting. On second thought. Looking up the specs and benches the 4870 X2 is about 30% better performance in games that use crossfire. That's not bad at all. If you can get away with it it might just be worth it. Benches for the 5870 were 7900 or so and the benches I saw for the 4870X2 were 11105. These are at stock and with a 620M.

The 4870's in crossfire are only 10-15% slower than 5870's in crossfire, so they are significantly faster than a single 5870. What you want to watch is the display. The R1's did not offer the 1200p RGB display; that display was exclusive to the M17x-R2. It is possible to mod the R1 to include the 1200 RGB screen, but it is very expensive (about $1,000 IIRC). So, it is possible, but unlikely, that the proposed R1 actually has that screen. Check carefully.

hahaha yeah something like that happened to me, saw an M17x with amazing specs for a really awesome price. went to check it out and non of the specs were right. she said she quote her specs sheet, which wasn't even in her name.
so i showed her her components in control panel. then she told me some lie about letting her co-worker borrow to check it out before selling it, and said he must of swap the parts.

but i hope things work out for you bro.

Do any of you just put the M15x to sleep every night? Or complete shutdown

I ask because I want to setup my M15x on the side and use it as a desktop when I'm at home but my G15 keyboard doesn't have a power button on it, and I figure it would be sort of a hassle to continually open it to turn it on. I've looked up configuring the G-keys to power the system on (emulating a power button) but the app is only within windows and the keys really do nothing until windows is loaded.

So back to the original, anyone just let it sleep? If not does anyone actually know the downside to sleeping rather than shutting down? I have a SSD so it's not like booting takes a long time, it's just the hassle of opening the screen to power the system on.

I looked up USB power buttons but eBay has none :(

@ danyune: I keep mine in sleep mode, i do close the lid to activate it but method of activation should not matter. I've had no trouble using sleep mode constantly without shutting down.

Yea i'm using them... nothing drastic... but fixes a couple bugs n stuff like that... ATI lists the main new features as follows:

    OpenGL ES 2.0 support
    Video Quality default options
Performance enhancement for Eyefinity Quad ATI CrossfireX configs
    Anti-Aliasing for StarCraft II

but 10.7 added video acceleration while watching online vids, for smoother playback, which is obviously included in 10.8 as well... i'd upgrade :) No issues so far... haven't tried benching with it though, so i don't know how it performs... 10.6 was rlly solid for benching

Well if you decide on an M17x-R2 and that deal falls through, be sure to keep an eye out on Dell outlet, there's some very nice deals there. One guy recently bought a loaded R2 with a 920xm, RGB LED + Crossfire 4870s for $2000.

The Crossfire 4870s are very stable, they can use reference AMD drivers without any beta vbios like the 5870s and as mentioned before, they're about 15% slower at stock vs Crossfire 5870s. I reviewed both of them a while back: YouTube - Alienware M17x-R2: Crossfire 5870M vs Crossfire 4870M
