So i play garrys mod for an hour and it seems my gpu temp doesnt drop below 55 after that
-
-
yeah once its heated up it will hover warmer then it did when you just turn on your lappy. so i would say that is normal.
-
Hey guys... just wondering... how much would you sell the system in my sig for? it was bought in february, so its 7 months old... any thoughts? ZERO scratches, in the box will everthing it came with... looks the same as it did when i got it... your feedback is greatly appreciated
thanks
-
for what you have now an aw 5870m which is nearly impossible to order with an M15X i would say 2.5k at least but if i remember correctly your in Canada so it seems about right.
-
selling it for 2.5k seems too high for a used one, sad to say this but you'll probably get half of that. maybe more if you find the right buyer but expect to lose alot.
-
this is not a price check section but i would imagine $1500-$1800 is realistic. I just saw a the same spec but ati 5850 not 5870 in outlet earlier today get snatched up for $1679 and a 20% coupon on top so in the end the buyer got it for $1343 plus tax and 1 yr warranty and they can get extension on top for cheap during time of purchase. Unless you have some sort of 4 yr complete care ballz to the wall warranty i can't see it selling about 2k and that is pushing it. If that is the case i will sell mine with bluray. dual drives SSD n HDD for $2.5k lolz
EDIT: Hey is that a DELL 5870m or a CLEVO. Does the audio out work over HDMI like the Dell cards -
yea but still his is a one off knock off that you cant order from dell with the aw 5870m just saying.
-
well geeze... thanks for shooting me down everyone loll
yes its a dell 5870 under warranty with powermizer and audio working over DP...
i recently got 3yr adv care btw...
Not sure if i want to sell it... but im just thinking about it... i'd probably try for 1800-2000...as i bought it for 2,500$...plus it now has a 9cell, dell 5870m, and 3yrs adv care....price seems right to me... thanks guys
never game anymore, so i'll probably just go for a M11x and call up my connection for desktop parts and build me one.... wtv just thinking out loudIt'll be hard as hell to let go of this badboy though..
-
alright given that you have a 3yr warranty and genuine Dell 5870 with everything working i would imagine your guesstimate of $1800-$2000 is right +/- $100. -
hahahaha i feel like i'm on the price is right or something, heheheheh
-
lol hahahahaha... its just not the same without bob barker though...
-
ADAM SANDLER n Bob Barker....PRICE IS RIGHT B**CH
-
i would go for 2000 you have pretty good specs...also with the 3 adv care we could accidently destroy it and get a new one...sell the new one then.. =) just saying
-
If I keep it I'm going all out crazy and upgrading till I cant nemore ( I won't mention any names INAP) lol... Or for 2k I can build a mad desktop... Why decisions decisions ... The fact that my gf's brother just got a m11x n it's friggin sweet dusnt help ... It's a cute lilfellow with a dual Core i7 and 6hr battery life... Now that's tempting
-
you can have both if you really want just need to find a good deal and get rid of couple of your other toys. I am glad another m15x member see's the advantages and potential of the power house m11x r2
-
I'd gladly pay 2k for it, but I already have one!
I've been thinking about selling too, but man they lose so much value, you can get a much better system then mine in the outlet for half the price I paid not 8 months ago..
Baaaw! -
Yea but there are no outlets in Canada... Canadian buyersnhave no choice to buy new, or from third parties other than Dell if they want a used system.
And I agree with faiz, the m11x r2 is awesome and tiny...you won't find a more powerful 11inch
Laptop... And that's a fact -
Ordered an M15x a few days ago! I've wanted an Alienware ever since the first time I saw one, call it an irrational obsession, and now it's finally coming. Thanks to this forum I called up and did a bit of haggling over the phone. Unfortunately the rep was pretty stubborn about upgrading the components I wanted, but I got her down to a good price so I took it. I hope it isn't a bad one?
Alienware M15x Cosmic Black, Intel Core i7 740QM, 15.6in Wide Full HD (1920 x 1080), 4096MB (2x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel, 320GB HDD, 9-cell 85W/HR LI-ION, 1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX260M -
-
Well Jstar try to sell it localy, if it works iut, great, if it doesnt, keep it and buy a M11x anyway!
-
-
for gaming the difference is pretty big, i would say around 30% at stock speeds.
so get it if you can. but a 260m would still handle gaming just fine @ high/ med for most games. -
dear 920xm+ owners:
What are your temps when gaming? -
man where is everyone today. -
-
What is the threshhold on the CPU? Is it 100 C?
I only really use my M15x to game, but I don't want to get a 920xm+ and end up overheating lol -
tjmax is 100 i believe yes.
at default clocks temps are even lower...
put your own quality thermal paste correctly and you'll be fine.
inap just made a great guide which you can find linked on his sig.
Download THERMAL PASTE GUIDE.rar from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way -
=( awwi tried so hard on my guide =(
then again his probably is better ive only been around computers 2 years and i taught myself -
hey guys, need some more opinions
i recently got offered an M17x r1 +cash for my m15x. here are the specs:
i7 720
8gb ram
2x 500gb hdd
4870s in xfire
1200p RGB led
now if i'm not mistaken isn't 4870s in xfire only barely better than a single 5870m? I honestly would prefer 1 5870 over 2x 4870's.... that beign said, how much can i sell a pair of 4870's for? I'm not too convinced with this offer... but the amount of cash he's going to offer can make or break it.
I'm not going to lie...the idea of going for a M17x, and getting a m11x ( best of both worlds i would say) is growing on me... -
+rep to you for the guide as well anyways -
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
-
hmmm i'm leaning towards the "go for it side".... 4870s in xfire are better than i thought...
and yea my mistake its an r2...
what would you say rev? should i do it? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Sure would for an R2. We'll miss you.
-
even if i get an r2, this thread will always be my home
hahaha... you guys are awesome here
ok so i'll see how it goes with this guy... i still have to meet up with him.... inspect everything... run some tests... you know lol. This guy doesn't know what he has comign if he thinks he can pull a fast one on me -
site is glitchy. it didn't show my post, and then it double posted. sorry mods. remove this.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Keep us posted. Could be a helluva deal. Maybe too good?
-
wow r2 with cash too, awesome, plus you have the other deal for the deal for the 920 also. that thing is gonna be a beast. geez we lost another one to the M17x, grrrrhhhh, heheheheh congrats bro.
-
i wouldn't congratulate me yet...like rev said...i'm starting to think now... maybe it is TOO good... well nothings going to be final untill i personally inspect the laptop myself.. only time will tell, i'll let you guys know how it plays out
-
hahaha yeah something like that happened to me, saw an M17x with amazing specs for a really awesome price. went to check it out and non of the specs were right. she said she quote her specs sheet, which wasn't even in her name.
so i showed her her components in control panel. then she told me some lie about letting her co-worker borrow to check it out before selling it, and said he must of swap the parts.
but i hope things work out for you bro. -
lol INAP that sounds like a craigslist deal
Jstarnino: you are smart enough to do your own research so check that baby out with a fine comb and make sure everything matches up and see the warranty status since you have one awesome warranty status on yours and yeah make sure it is clean and not HAWT -
Do any of you just put the M15x to sleep every night? Or complete shutdown
I ask because I want to setup my M15x on the side and use it as a desktop when I'm at home but my G15 keyboard doesn't have a power button on it, and I figure it would be sort of a hassle to continually open it to turn it on. I've looked up configuring the G-keys to power the system on (emulating a power button) but the app is only within windows and the keys really do nothing until windows is loaded.
So back to the original, anyone just let it sleep? If not does anyone actually know the downside to sleeping rather than shutting down? I have a SSD so it's not like booting takes a long time, it's just the hassle of opening the screen to power the system on.
I looked up USB power buttons but eBay has none -
It's official. I put it up for sale. We'll see what happens.

@ danyune: I keep mine in sleep mode, i do close the lid to activate it but method of activation should not matter. I've had no trouble using sleep mode constantly without shutting down.

Anyone using 10.8 drivers for their 5850? I'm currently on 10.6, so was wondering if its worth updating them.
-
Yea i'm using them... nothing drastic... but fixes a couple bugs n stuff like that... ATI lists the main new features as follows:
OpenGL ES 2.0 support
Video Quality default options
Performance enhancement for Eyefinity Quad ATI CrossfireX configs
Anti-Aliasing for StarCraft II
but 10.7 added video acceleration while watching online vids, for smoother playback, which is obviously included in 10.8 as well... i'd upgradeNo issues so far... haven't tried benching with it though, so i don't know how it performs... 10.6 was rlly solid for benching
-
hey can anyone find the link to how much it costs to order a 5850m and a 5870m from Dell? i can't seem to find it on the dell site... keeps giving me desktop gpus only. Thanks
-
Well if you decide on an M17x-R2 and that deal falls through, be sure to keep an eye out on Dell outlet, there's some very nice deals there. One guy recently bought a loaded R2 with a 920xm, RGB LED + Crossfire 4870s for $2000.
The Crossfire 4870s are very stable, they can use reference AMD drivers without any beta vbios like the 5870s and as mentioned before, they're about 15% slower at stock vs Crossfire 5870s. I reviewed both of them a while back: YouTube - Alienware M17x-R2: Crossfire 5870M vs Crossfire 4870M -
