the reset drains the little battery on the motherboard so everything that is stored on volatile memory is erased...which also resets the bios, and solves many conflict-type issues ( including the Command Ceneter which is reknown for conflicts )

Ok so you folks helped me with updating my bios using Nero and all went well. My daughter has our same machine and want's to update her's and she has a DVD-RW and while I think this will be okay I just want to confirm this since I used a CD-RW. So can she use the DVD?

 

pickles you have already burn the disc, so you can just use that one to update the other M15x. so yes dvd/cd/blueray is all the same.

 

But please don't use a bluray disc for bios! LOL think of the waste!!

Hey Jstar, my only reservation with the HDJ-1000 is the coiled bungy cord. At home I sit a bit over 2m away so I'm looking at headphones with 3m straight cords. I'm leaning towards a Audio Technica ATH-AD500 or a Sennheiser HD595 or maybe a Diamond encrusted iPod bud Whadda ya think?

 

looks cool. I would have incorporated the alienhead into the skin. That would really look fantastic

 

I would but she lives in NC and I live in VA. Besides, I erased my disc after I updated my bios. She only has a DVD-RW on hand (not blueray). Thanks for the info.

 

hey guys I am wondering if I should swap my gtx for a 5850 gddr5, cause of the wattage on the gtx, I am wondering if it gives to much heat and does it void warranty.

Also do your arrow keys flex alittle or tap louder than the rest.

also how do u guys feel on extened warrantys through dell

 

I don't know the specs of the 5850 but if you have one or can get one for cheap and if it's supported then why not lol. If the specs aren't that much better then don't wast time and money for just Dx11.

 

hey temps on a core i7 idling at 50c is that normal seems high for a computer with such good cooling

 

Depends on ambient temps. I get around mid 40's. Mid 50's on some light usage.

 

Its pretty hot in here today (I'd say about 25), im surfing the internet and my CPU is jumping from 55 to 54.. So yeah, that's normal! Don't forget the i7 uses a lot of power!

But in all seriousness... i think any1 of those would do (not the diamond ipod ones LOL) .

But if your concerned about the coiled wire on the pioneers...first off its meant that way to extend FAR when you need it to, without getting in your way when you don't. Unstrectched its about a little over a meter long...and stretched i'd say it can extend easily over 3...and dont owrry about the jack being pulled out.. they fit in tight! It also prevents tangles (must have for djs). Second... They cord comes off!! so if your not happy with it, and its gettin on your nerves... or if it gets damaged in the long run... you can just pickup a new cord at any audio shop.. fo rlike 20-30 bux... and viola! Another reason why they're great.

Those Senns you're looking at are solid also.. but real bulky. That being said.. i haven't tried those models personally so i can't really say.

But if you were willing to spend 2,500 on those diamond ones... i'd say pickup some hdj-2000's .. they're only 350$ and probably the best headphones out right now. Durable as duck ( d=f... LOL HA! got you again mods!).

ps. i know you werent serious bout those diamond ones ( at least i hope so LOLL

i have sony MDR-V500 with the coiled cord and its great for far away use and close ranged best pair of headphones so far for me im not picky as long as they don't crush my ears or shocking me im cool

 

Headphones are as good as the amps you plug them into.

 

Thanks Jstar I ordered the Audio Technica ATH-AD500 last night, they looked the comfiest for extended periods of gaming. I'm a terrible impulse buyer (bought the M15x on impulse, was not even searching for laptops!) so if I find myself getting addicted to hi quality audio I may well end up looking at the hdj-2000's

 

anyone officially know the speed of our DVD burner? I think its 8x but that seems a little slow for an alienware... I ask this becuz in Nero, 8x is the fastest I can burn at

Hey guys, my first post. Just ordered my m15x on 29/04.

Specs:
Cosmic Black, Core i7 720qm, 8GB 1333mhz ram, Nividia GTX 260M, 500GB@7200rpm, 1080p, Intel 5300 Wifi. 2yrs dell premium warranty.

Have been using overpriced mac for quite sometime (music etc) and decided to switch, so im completely new to windows, new to gaming etc. Bear with me if i ask noob questions yeah?

congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forums. one thing i could ask is why do you need the 8gb of ram?

 

Did your entire fx lighting go out? I had that happen too. You might have to get the motherboard replaced if that's the case.

I run music recording softwares on my comp like podfarms etc. Multitask alot when im dealing with music. Occasional video editing and photos too. My mac is running on core duo and 4gb @1066 and i find it not good enough..

There was a 200$ off from dell singapore for like a week. From 3399sgd to 3199sgd with the specs i got. The other base model comes with 3gb ram, 320gb HD and 512mb GT240 GPU for 2799sgd and there were no discounts on this one, so i figured why not? 300SGD is approx. 220USD.

Ive seen alot of people commenting on ram upgrades, is it really not worth it? as in theres not much difference?

Not sure if its worth it. but oh wells.. Hope it wont disappoint me.

 

Don't know if anybody noticed, but the M15x is now available with the 5850 card and not the 5870!

Kind of a surprise. How good is this card compared to the 5870?

Edit: I just saw I had checked on the Dell Panama site, on the US site it's still only the 240 and 260 options. Hmm... Even weirder.

 

the 5850 is comparable to the current 4870, so still a pretty good card.

Man just replaced my screen and keyboard today, i just told the tech to drop off the parts and i would do it myself. they sent the same tech guy that bricked my system last time,lol. he was so happy that i was going to do it myself. man clueless techs hahahhahah.

 

Yeah the techs get paid either way. Mine was like "Awesome!" when I told him he just needed to drop off the new mobo for the defective one. Easy...

Do you think the 5850 is actually an upgrade over the GTX 260M, though?
This most likely means there's not gonna be a 5870 at all for the M15x.

 

yeah 5870 are no go right now, i think it is because of the heat requirements, 5850 is an upgrade from the 260m, should be nice and no more throttling.

 

hmm im still in the 21 day return stage im thinking of returning my M15x and getting 5850

 

Well at least it's an upgrade option. Also, getting rid of the throttling issue is a pro.

 

i don't think thats worth doing since the 260 overclocks pretty well, i suggest ordering a 5870 and doing it yourself.

 

Don't return your system too soon Tuenkamen, remember that the option is not yet available on the US site! So far I have only found it on the Panama site.

EDIT: well i called got sent all over the place then got a definite answer but i would have to send my system back and reorder the system with 5850 and i think im going to keep my machine change the thermal paste to mx-3 get my external hhd and new mouse and call it good

yeah not really worth the exchange when the 260 can be overclocked so well, if it was a 5870 then yes way worth it.

And Inap I gotta do that work for school than I'm gonna troubleshoot my Alienfx, take out my HDD/ram and all to see if the AlienFX is working.. But I'm pretty damn sure it's a Hardware failure..

I have to sell my baby. I love this computer so much but life always seems to get in the way or kick me in the nuts at the worst times.
