So, the tech came this morning and replaced the DVD drive. Man, don't ever mess your drive, it's the most complicated thing to replace in the M15x! I took a pic that I will post later. He had to take my whole baby apart and then take the bracket of the old drive in order to mount the new one! Works like a dream, though!

I was so glad to see they sent me my regular tech (I don't even think there are more Dell techs on our small island). He was very professional as always, extremely careful and cleaned up everything, even the smudges he left behind. I also picked up a new mobile wireless stick and it seems to be a lot quicker than the previous one (it's still slow by any means!).

    My baby is back!!!!

Does anyone know of a driver for the Alienware Integrated Webcam? I had it twice on there and now I cant seem to get it back plus I had when I first got the m15x/Area-51 m15x. I had a choice of two cams, Alienware and YouCam, which youcam gets on my nerves.

    Any suggestions.

The tech from dell called me today. He will come on friday... Shucks, but thats better than nothing!
Also I meant thats what I WANT in my earlier post.
I will either buy two screens or buy one 23'' LED monitor. Both should cost about 375-400$

As far as I am concerned, the screen of the M15x is both big and beautiful enough. Besides, I would constantly be looking where my work files are (weren't they just on screen 3?). :)

So how did school go today, Thierry? What are you studying if I may ask?

My poor little naked baby! The drive is actually taken out from the front, meaning you have to take out the keyboard and palmrest and then just about everything else (this info just for other noobs like me).

Yeah, he's a real pro. He leaves no room for mistakes, apologizes upfront for smudges which he cleans up afterwards anyway. If I ever decide to put in the 5870 (just for fun cause I really don't need it), he's gonna put it in for me.
It's a shame they're so damn expensive over here. It would be fun just to do some benching with the big people.

yeah i don't really recommend a 5870 for the average guy, because you have to monitor your temps closely because those bad boys runs hot, i think the 260m would be a perfecr fit for you harry, handle most games nicely and the temps are awesome.

But I don't play games so it would just be to run benches and to play around with the lappy. Like I said, I don't need such a high priced card but if they were cheaper I wouldn't care getting one.
As far as being careful goes, there's nothing to worry. I always keep an eye on things that might go wrong. Even now when I run Vantage I monitor temps even though the card never goes over 56°C.
The thing about the 260 card is that I can't get it on the island, only ATI cards are freely available. Unfortunately I haven't seen a 5850 card yet but I'll be on the lookout! It must be more fun pushing your system to the limit than just work on it like I do!

Besides, If I had $700 to spare I would rather send them to Sleey0 so he could keep his lappy or to Thierry so he could get that wicked curved Alienware screen!

hahah yup thats true, i just spent the last 2 days benching the crap out of my lappy. with the 5870 the M15x truely becomes a beast of a laptop.

got top spot on some of the benches, really want to break that 10k mark.

Does the card hit very high temperatures while playing games or its just when you are benching..

I was in class earlier, just got back from school.. :p
I'm still in high school (or the equivalent in Quebec..) next year I'm gonna study pure and applied science, and I'm planning on going for computer science, civil engineering or something related to computer engineering :D
The M15x really did help me to find a passion in which I will eventually study to make a profession. Seriously! I was thinking about going in business and all, but my new lappy made me realized how much time I can spend lurking around on forums just to know better about computers and all.
Plus engineering offers great salary :D
what about you Harry, what is/was your day job? I'm curious!

    Hi Thierry,

Great that you have something in mind that you like.
I myself am a chemical engineer with a post grade in fossil fuels. loads of money in that but boring as hell! So I quit doing that after 8 months and decided that was the last time I would work for someone else. I went to Margarita Island and started a language school. Worked as language teacher and course developer for 15 years and started working as a translator. Poor as a church rat but happy as can be!!!

Man, if I could just do it all over again! (I wouldn't change a thing, except I wouldn't have gone to university :_))

Ha ha ha! Hell no, mate! Pimping in South America is about the most dangerous job there is. Absolutely everybody is armed in this country, bro. I'd rather do something else where I don't have to work too much!

Being a translator is perfect. You decide when you work, how hard you work or if you work at all. Once I get the money in that pays all the bills for the month, I stop working for a while and spend my time with my family.
I know, not a dream for most people, but hell, it's my way of life, and to speak with McD: "I'm lovin' it!"

yeah 85 is pretty good when playing games for hours, haven't found anything new to make the temps better, waiting to see if they do anything special for the 5850 cards, maybe a new heatsink. i was thinking of lapping my heatsink but temps seems stable enough for right now.

After learning and dominating 2 languages, it gets easier with every new language, simply because you notice that basically every language is the same.
Besides, almost all of you dominate programming languages, which are are a lot more difficult than normal languages!

Wow, 14 is very high!! I know a few people who speak 5 or 6 but 14 is awesome!!

You must have your pick of the good jobs :)

    Respect!!

Actually, I know what you mean.. i started out learning basic assembly etc and learning dutch and spanish was made easier because I could grasp structure fast.. Having said that they are rich with mental shapes and character that you just don't get in computer-logic languages.

It's pretty much the same whatever you are learning, once you get the hang of a variety of things, everything else becomes easier..

The ATi 5850 is a £10 upgrade over the GT240, compared to the £60 for the GTX260M. I'm still in the 30 day period, so I can still send it back and re-order, but is there a way to get dell to install it for me without sending it back and having to reorder?

Actually, it's a 21-day period. If you're still in it, go for it!

No, they'll have to have to lappy to install it. Otherwise you will have to order the piece and swap it yourself, but in that case you will have to pay apart for it. They won't take your card back.
