both screens are nice, but 1080 will have a better resell value. gaming in 1080 and 900 pretty same thing i can hardly tell the difference. but screen real estate is real important to me so the 1080 is a must.

anyways i'll know he'll be back, sooner or later. ;)
and i totally agree with you about the M15x, best laptop i've ever owned. :D

I just downgraded from a 1650 X 1050 screen to the M15x 1400 X 900. Don't really notice a large loss of screen real estate. Plus the extra width makes up for the lost height :D

I don't personally watch HD movies on the laptop. Mostly through my xbox (through netflix) or PS3. Frankly, the screen is too small to appreciate any difference in video playback quality on a 900 vs 1080 screen. Plus I have a 6 cell battery, so it usually dies in 1.5 hrs without being plugged in - I don't even bother packing movies when I travel.

I know how to do it, it's just a lot of work for something that should be simple as popping off the bottom panel like on other laptops.

As for the drivers, I currently don't have them installed, but it's a big FU to your consumer when you release drivers that don't work properly with the damn hardware you're selling!

Again no one's answered my question, is the touchpad multi touch support ??

the original driver does not have multi touch but there is a multi touch synaptics driver if your willing to search for it. but its still lame.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I really appreciate it. Now I just have to wait on my next paycheck as I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy now that it's almost positive the 5850's are DDR5. I have a cousin that works in PR for Nvidia and she's gonna kill me when she finds out haha.

Does every version of the synaptics driver cause that damn laggy sensation? I really want multi touch. It drastically increases my productivity.

Is the lag a hardware issue or simply just drivers suck?

Seems to be driver suck. Something to do with an extremely low polling rate for the mousepad.

The tech changed my mobo, he was very cool and all. Though my bios is back on A03... I'll have to upgrade it to A05 soon! :O

Great to hear Soccer! My replacement mobo came with A05 already. I guess they have non-flashed mobos still laying around? Kinda odd they don't come factory flashed already.

Hi guys, been lurking here for a while and must say this is one great community. Congratulations to all!

As for the M15x touchpad working under linux...I must say it's as smooth as my MacbookPro, though there's no multitouch. The funny thing is that M15x is even more fun to use under linux than under win7. Everything working without a glitch. You should try a live cd ubuntu distribution (no installation needed, it boots right into the OS without any harm to your win7 installed on hd) it will amaze you!

your going to have to do a fresh install which you delete all partitions and then format the whole drive to get all access to the memory.

...or just use a partition manager to delete, reformat the hidden partition if you wish to do that and all other partitions remain unharmed.

Speaking of lights...anyone's ALIENWARE logo lights under the LCD seem kind of dim. And...and...anyone's touch button colors seem off compared to the rest of the keyboard and zones? Especially the plasma purple, it's like bright pink on the touch buttons LOL.

Lol yeah I was just cycling through all my colors and I was like...WHAT pink?! I use all green anyway witha modified green AW wallpaper but still, it's weird. Inap what about your logo under the lcd, is it dimmer than everything else? Maybe my room is too bright.

Yeah the colors are always off and a bit dim compared to the keyboards but I think it's normal. But most the time I have that part off anyways. Hey I have a modified wallpaper too that red one. I made a green and a blue version of that. Lol

Noticed late last night my wei score had dropped due to lower memory score????? Ran Diagnostic test and between the test and system information I only had 2gigs memory. Guess the tech didn't seat one properly after replacing the motherboard. I reseated them this am so I'm back up to 4gigs. All is fine now.

Yeah needed something heavy to curl with you know, too weak for the m17x thoguh :(...

Went to the gym after making my order, could´nt stop thinking about the damn laptop, lol!

Naa but fitness/bodybuilding is my hobby and in my Swedish High School I´m attending like a sports-program which lets me go to the gym and play floorball (like field hockey) during school hours (it´s in my schedule) which is really nice! High School over in Sweden is like College in the US, you don´t choose you classes, you choose a program :).

Doh, got some random corrupt boot file errors. I'm not too worried cos this install of windows has always been buggy, in particular it refused to remember my network passwords after sleeping/rebooting. I backed up the HDD on the desktop and am reinstalling windows now.

    And Welcome back JStar :)
