and thanks for all the warm welcomes
And hey ramusbjork, congratz on the new system!!and welcome to the familty... As you may already know.. the M15x is friggin awesome. We'll be here every step of the way to guide you through any problems, should you encounter any.
And about the 5850, its still not 100% confirmed...but i would think its GDDR5...unless alienware is really that dumb... -
last month dell replaced my motherboard because the lights were not working
after i upgrade my bios to A05
now everything works fine..
currently my bios version is A01
is it necessary to upgrade my bios to A05 again?
by the way my alien touch and fusion are not working =/
anyone can help please? -
Yesterday i applied MX-3 thermal paste and the new thermal pads from frozen cpu, and FINALLY my temps is now stable at 84c max from playing battlefield bad company 2! IM LOVING my 5870m even more now.
Speaking of 5870m, the colors is little off, how do i calibrate it correctly? any suggestions?
Ramusbjork, welcome! M15x owners rocks -
A05 is a good update, it fixed an issue with my razer mamba mouse
For the alien FX try a discharge: Pull the power plug and remove the battery then hold the power button for 30 seconds. You may also need to remove command center and reinstall it.
-
After you've done that do what smeggit said.. a bios reset will most prob fix the lights not coming on.
-
Hey Jstar! Wasssup!
Btw if there is anyone from canada, the signature event gives you an awesome deal, 1699$ for the 720QM, the 5850, 6gb of ram and a 500gb HDD 350$ saving. O_O
Thats actually the first time there is a better deal than what I actually had back in january. Take makes me a sad panda.. I wish I had buy the 1080p screen >_> -
-
Needs more Harry here. -
thanks for the update soccer.
len888, i have a sticky up in the front page, if you could read it and see if this was your case, so i can add you to the names on the list. -
No prob, I gotta study in physic and mechanic.. is boring.. >.>
-
hahhaha yeah school is boring but at least you got a goal now. maybe one of these days i will have a laptop designed by you. hahaha
if i had a chance to do it all over again, i would work my butt off and have my dream job by now. too bad i didn't have a real goal back then. -
Yeah that's what I think... Better work now to have fun for the rest of my life rather than have fun and work for the rest of my life!
But man your job doesn't look so bad, look at your M15x's specs, it cant be so bad!
Sadly we can't all be like Harry! -
ill upgrade the bios now wish me luck XD
-
I just updated mine earlier, it's super simple! -
Finally got the touchpad to recognize multitouch, helps a lot but this really needs a BIOS update or something to fix how the way the touchpad reacts. Is it possible to get pinch zooming to work on this touchpad??
-

-
yay thanks for everything!
i have successfully flashed the A05 bios and the new command centre!
now i got 2 small problems
1st is when i scroll down/up there will be a weird sound like flickering (only when i opening websites)
2nd after i finished playing bff2 i exit the game, the screen will just keep staying on bff2 menu it doesnt directly goes into desktop =/, so everytime i finished playing the game i should click ctrl+alt+del..
sorry im not really good in english
im using the latest version of nvidia 197.16 -
Did you run Driver Sweeper after removing the old Nvidia drivers? Leaving some old driver components etc and installing a new driver over it can cause problems.
Try a clean driver install and see if that helps.
1. Uninstall current driver through Control Panel
2. Run Driver Sweeper (cleaning everything under "Nvidia Display" only)
3. Boot into Safe Mode
4. Run Driver Sweeper
5. Install desired Nvidia driver
6. Reboot to Windows -

You should go with the ATI 5850 if it is available. Otherwise I'm more inclined inclined to Arrandale CPUs and 1600*900 def but that's definitely a matter of taste.

ok zaidbaby keep posting here because the other thread is for another issue. so you don't have a system yet, so why do you want to reformat for?
also yes 5850 will be better if it is confirmed to be gddr5, more then likely they will be. 900 or 1080 screen is really up to your perference. -
-
yea you can, but will be more expensive than getting it up front.
-
by how much inap
-
i'm not sure if they release the price yet but i think around $350 range.

Just found out that the alienFX does not work properly on my mint new replacement system out of box. No software installed (except for default ones that come with laptop). The alienhead on lid and power button do not light up until windows boots up. Touch strip lights up about 5 seconds into windows boot.
what is going on here? -
well im convinced my sound issues are coming from my gfx card clocking up and down all the time causing distortion and crackling so im going to bring this up to dell next week
-
my fps is getting lower by 5-10 after i did this using 197.16
i cant get to desktop also after i exit bff2, my screen is still stuck on the main menu of bff2
could anyone help me please?
and is there any overclock guide using nvidia system tools?
thanks -
Hi everyone,
Got my M15x last thursday and it's amazing! kicks the outta my old desktop at everything. The screen is great too, the colours and detail even on the 900p screen is awesome. It's a bit bigger than i thought it would be, knew it would be fairly big but not quite this big. The touchpad isn't great, but not as bad as i thought, if i don't have a mouse in it usually means i'm not doing anything that needs a great mouse, so serves its purpose. The graphics are amazing, my friend was surprised that COD 4 looked just like his PS3, but didn't lag when there were lots of explosions.
I did come across a few things that i was wondering if you guys knew how to fix:
1) when i close the lid, it goes to sleep for a few mins then comes back on, same with fn+F1. how can i make it stay asleep?
2) i was playing GTA IV earlier and it keeps lagging on me. it plays fine but every few seconds it lags then is fine and repeats. i'm not sure if this is the GPU throttling, i will have to monitor the clocks later tho. it seems more like the harddrive can't keep up with loading the map, wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? and anyone who has played GTA 4 what detail they use? I tried putting everything to low with no success. do i need to find that program that tells it to run only on physical cores, will that help?
3) The battery life, i knew i wouldn't get great battery life, but are there ways to prolong the battery to get over 2 hours or so? or am i doomed to watch movies and shows with the power in?
Thanks -
is stealth mode on?
-
Sorry to say GTA IV is an issue with the i7 CPU's. People have had mixed results turning off turbo or using 3rd party software to limit the number of cores the game uses.
-
Any problems you might run into, questions you might have, this is the place!
The people in this particular thread are absolute awesome and will guide you through every step of the way in case you need something done!
M15x rocks! -
Man, your little family (and this thread, by the way) almost fell into a deep depression after/because of your absence!
I even "smacked my system a few times" to give you something to do! But as you didn't come back on time, the tech came and fixed it for me.
Good to have you back bro, and remember, no more avatars of fully dressed women!
And to stay on topic, my new internet connection rocks! This mobile internet stick gives me between 5 and 10 times the speed the previous one did, and now I can really enjoy the monstrousness that is this machine!
These are the speeds I reach early in the morning at late at night:
I'm lovin' it! -
Good to see things have revived a little in this thread! -
You're not gonna regret it my friend.
Welcome to our little family! -
I hope they come an fix it quickly! -
I haven't reached the end of the thread yet, so I imagine your questions have already been answered by now.
To me it sounds like Stealthmode is on. Watching movies shouldn't be a problem with your battery, unless you wanna watch Gladiator on it. My battery holds out for over 2 hours if just watching a film.
Good luck with your machine man. Enjoy it!
By the way - Sorry for filling up this page guys (Bruce), but I had some catching up to do! See y'all tomorrow! -
thanks for the guide but it doesnt work
my fps is getting lower by 5-10 after i did this using 197.16
i cant get to desktop also after i exit bff2, my screen is still stuck on the main menu of bff2
