Hey everybody, quick update. Dell never got back to me and the tech/supervisor aren't having any luck either. Best purchase of all time, lol.

The only thing more frustrating must be coming across the sign in Harry's sig.

I'm sure you'll be more than fine. My old Studio XPS 1645 was basically the same specs as your system. And can play battlefield Bad Company 2 on nearly maxed settings with AA turned off. Based on Notebook Check you can run Left for Dead 2 with maxed out settings and expect to see 60FPS. so Game on!

Certainly have. They're ignoring me. It's alright though, it'll work itself out one way or another. At least the system is working now, just no AlienFX.

ok, so i've been trying to play cod 4 with my friends (I know it's old, but some of them are lame and have macs...) and i keep getting BSODs...I'm not sure what's wrong, it might be the gameranger i'm using to connect to them. does anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Also, windows live messenger keeps giving me all sorts of connection errors until it finally lets me in about 15 minutes later of spamming "connect' button...
Google chrome, gives me 400 Bad Request errors when i try to post here, no idea what that means...
I'm wondering how the alien respawn thing works. will this bring my computer back to the dell image it was when i got it? i don't want to reinstall windows and stuff and mess all the command center and things up, so that's why im asking what the respawn thing does. I've only had this computer for a week so I don't mind wiping it if it means it will work...
Sorry for all the complaints, just want a working computer :p

Have you tried changing the video driver? or uninstalling and reinstalling?

Do you have any special drivers or custom devices (like a ramdisk) that might be causing it?

Is it only in COD2 or in general and is it when playing a game or can it happen when the machine is idle?

well originally it was only cod 4. but my GTA crashed earlier, but much later in the game (i had already played for over an hour). it seems to only be in games. I had downloaded the 197.16 drivers i think, but clicked the rollback thing (they are now 186.47) before trying cod again and it still crashed a few mins in. GTA actually crashed the computer after i hit rollback drivers so now i'm a little worried. That's why i'm asking about the respawn, so i can restart and try again.

as for custom devices and things, i don't think i have any, only thing plugged in is my mouse i stole from my desktop til i get a better one. i uninstalled daemon tools and a few other things like process lasso just to check if they did anything, but this was all before GTA crashed. There isnt realy much i've installed on it yet: windows live (which seems to hate the internet on this computer), skype, google chrome (gets errors in the forum), vmware, windows 7 xp mode, winrar, photoshop CS4. I cant see how these would affect games tho...

I have zone alarm firewall and norton antivirus, they are usually annoying on my desktop but i don't get BSOD on there when playing cod. could this be something from windows 7?

There are benchmarks for the 5870 in the official M15x Benchmark Thread, The 5850 however doesn't have much more than whats available on Notebookcheck.com and those benchs were performed using an MSI laptop. So just have to keep waiting and seeing what happens.

Just put in my order for the M15x. Final price of $1,999.89 shipped. I kept haggling my rep to reduce the price, and finally he asked me for my budget and I said 2k, so he agreed to it. Overall 13% discount from retail price. Specs are as follows:

    Cosmic - Black
    i7 720
    900p screen
    ATI 5850
    6 GB DDR3 1333
    500 GB
    6-cell
    2 years advanced warranty

Effective ETA is June 7. Hopefully i dont regret this.

it is always best to uninstall drivers and reinstall then, do not use the roll back feature, sometimes it may cause issuesa, when the older driver is not erased correctly.

to early to say for 5850 since people have just started receiveing them, but if their anything close to the 5870 then they will be awesome cards.

awesome setup battousai10k, , congrats on a great deal, you won't regret it, it gonna be a beast.

Same here. I fell in love with it the first time I saw and had to save the money for it. I could go with lower specs because I don't game. I use the computer to work on but I'm loving it! I could have saved over 50% for what I need it for, but I haven't regretted it for a moment! AW rocks! (But the waiting sucks!)

They were claiming i was AWOL on my student visa but i wasn't so now im going to sue my school maybe or least give them an ear full.

back on topic it was nice to be able to use my laptop on this trip for light internet use and gaming when i was stationary so all in all affirms the reason why i bought this laptop.

Nah seriously the M15x is not that portable, but if you need to move it around, you will be able to do so without any problem!

I have two questions for you guys!

    1. Why can some people order the M15 with Intel 6300 Ultimate N as a wifi card, I could only do the 5300. Is it only certain countries that can do it?

    2. Was just looking at my order and was thinking about a thing. Where my order says Trigger, is that what my nameplate will say :S?

    ...Personalized Nameplate
    Personalized Nameplate Trigger
    AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
    Alienware Command Center Software...

spec options change depending on country.

i don't know why they say trigger but it will only say M15x on the name plate if you don't have a option to customize.

Call them anytime even after your receive your laptop, they will send you the correct nameplate (if they sent you a wrong one to begin with)

BTW prev gen M17x is available with 2GB 260M in SLI on deals2buy for just 1499 - just saw it.

    Hi Razz, how's life?
I think that people who have the 6300 card actually put it in themselves. I regularly check several Dell sites (about 7) and I have never seen the 6300 card as an option on any of them. I might be wrong, of course, as I don't check all of them.
The change of your card saying Trigger is slim. Some sites give that standard name if the name cannot be personalized. It will probably just say M15x just like IanppropriateName says.

So how do you like your machine so far?

wow nice, tf2 ready to go huh? just finishing up at work and gonna head home but be back in a little bit, if your free we can frag it up, lol

the 2 must common is 3dmark06 and 3dmark vantage. I kind of favor vantage over the 06 because it more about gpu scores, 06 is nice if you can oc your cpu. also harry hit me up if you need the key for both.

Looking at this forum all the time while I´m doing math, lol! Not very smart.

If it says Trigger when I get it I´m just gonna demand a new one, even spelled it out tp the guy so if he did it wrong I don´t know what he was doing... Maybe I´ll call them tomorrow, don´t know if I have the time though.

it won't say trigger, it just a term they use for non customized name plates, so don't worry. but trigger sounds like an awesome name anyways, hahahahah. it's gonna be a generic name plate saying M15x.

maybe i should post a pic of my name plate but its kinda of inappropriate hahahah, but i think harry would know what it says.

Hey, bro! How's life at the office?

I already bought Vantage a while ago and I run it once in a while (mostly because JD likes to see the planes fly!). My scores are always around 11,000 for the CPU and around 2100 for the GPU. All stock, of course, as I know nothing about OC'ing and all that. I'd like to download 3demark06 so I can run some other benches and publish them here. It's not for me - I don't understand the results anyway - but as there is apparently no one else (benching) with the 240 card, I thought this might give people some idea of the (lack of) capabilities of the card. So, yeah, bor, if you can send me the key, I'd appreciate it (after all, it's a screaming $9.85  Ha ha ha!).

I'm still working on my boring project so I will probably be online a while longer. Maybe I can squeeze some frags out!! You'll probably have to help me by giving instructions, because I am as noob as you will ever encounter in the rest of your life, bro! :D

    (Well, some surf, some game!)

hmmm, i seem to miss all the fun being over 12 hours ahead of you most of you guys. What is the difference between the dell wireless card and the intel 5300? is the intel more stable/better range?

And why does my computer keep downloading corrupt files?... i tried to download firefox, clicked run when it was finished and it said it was corrupt...

    Hi MadPenguin, how is life?

We're not all within the same time zone here. Inap, for example, leaves work when it's around 10 PM where I live.A 12 hour difference makes it a lot harder of course. When you're online there is most likely very little action on the forum!

In this case it was actually about the 5300 and the 6300 card. The 6300 wireless card is simply a lot better. Way longer range, better reception and higher speeds. Definitely worth the $30 upgrade. Unfortunately I have not seen the upgrade option on any of the Dell sites, so you would have to do it yourself. The 5300 card is still a very capable card, though.

Edit: Sorry, I still have to answer your question! The Intel card has better reception and maintains a stabler wireless connection. The difference isn't too big, though. They're both good and stable cards.

ok thanks harry, if its cheap then maybe i can go find a 6300 and put that in, can't be too hard :p.
Life is good for me tho, finished my IB exams so i'm free until feb next year (going from northern hemisphere school time to australian university). the only problem is that this laptop doesn't want to cooperate. i fixed the bluescreen issue by uninstalling some things and reinstalling gameranger, but the internet is still an issue, looking at a respawn this weekend.

No hay problema, mi pana! Just glad you got it working, bro! That's all that counts. Still a good idea to have it on a stick as well, always handy.
