Yep, its a pretty slow night.

Stinks that my m15x is all the way back in NY.

lol dude i haven't had something that wasn't covered by inap so i got bored and just was doing laundry most of today. Also im waiting on my new tactx mouse to arrive its still in production lol ordered on the 25th of May.

Also this coming week going to be looking at an apt for university in Waterloo. Prices so far seem good 480-580 CAN$ but thats in a 4-5 br apt to share with roommates, but the university looks to have people in the same major room together so we shall see.

Also i recently was having an issue with borderlands with large dust/smoke effects(skagzilla jump and outrunner carcasses) causing a slow down in fps(no throttling i checked with gpuz). I updated to v1.2.1 and this was run on the 257.15 drivers.

It was release in canada earlier this week, everybody was going crazy over this stupid pad.

 

I've finally got around to playing Dragon Age: Origins (the original, not the expansion that just came out). It runs smooth as butter, but it made all 8 logical cores go to 80%-90% for the entire time, and the fans were going full blast. I switched the processor affinity to just a single core (the second core, since it always seems to be the coolest), and now the game is still smooth as butter but the fans only go on their low setting.

dude i know no multitasking, no camera, gets pretty hot, and your stuck on OSX(Iphone edition) lol.

and people pay a lot of money for the apps to use on it ROFL.

 

I have and ipad
It sits in its dock right next to my m15x, and I use it for facebook notifications

Apart from watching videos on it it sucks. (I wonder if there is a hack to use it as a 2nd monitor)

But getting back on topic, mine runs crysis at 15fps maybe 20 tops on Very High settings. Not so much fun to play on when its like that.

 

Maybe I can bench my ipad?!
It's not possible...but, it's not really useful for much else now that I have my m15x.

And ohhh, 15fps on very high? Hmm, wish it were playable. :/

That's cool. Do you use Task Manager to set the affinity? What temps on the single core?

 

Anyone think it's possible to run XP on the m15x?

Laptop has finally shipped, still in states though according to purolator. Shipped on Friday apparently, im hoping it gets here by the end of this week at the latest.

 

really I'm starting in the fall for faculty of mathematics(transfer student) what about you.

at my previous college i attended 5 semesters before leaving that school for personal reasons.(p.s. i was the only Canadian there)

 

Yeah, I just used Task Manager. When it was just set to use the single core, it only got up to around 60C, and the other cores stayed down near 50C. But before I set the affinity, all 4 cores were fluctuating between 75C and 80C with the fans going full blast!

 

when you played DA, were you playing with frame buffer effects on?

I have agreed a deal to sell my Alienware M15x in the coming days! I therefore will me moving on and up to the M17x once payment clears. Been good being part of the group, but the time has come to move on up

I'll still pop in time to time , but for now I leave The M15x group with the knowledge of having the fastest 820QM (as per benchmark scores) (And one of the top GPU Scores too )

I think i need a new monitor . I have a Samsung 245BW that I'm using but I kind of want something with 120Hz or possibly even 3dReady. I've been looking at the Alienware one but anyone know of any other options? Also whats ATI's version of the 3DVision?

 

Hmm I don't know. I just turned everything to "very high", including AA. I don't remember specifying details like frame buffer effects though. Why, is that related to the CPU usage?

 

I've been wanting a new monitor for home too, but ever since having a 30" at work, with two 20" monitors on the side, I'm too spoiled to settle with anything less than a 30". But I haven't been able to find a 30" for under $1,200 online, so I'm still waiting for prices to drop...

Here's my setup at work. The two 20" monitors on the sides are rotated 90 degrees to portrait mode.

 

ati does have drivers that supports 3d but they rely on 3rd party hardware and software to get 3d enabled. so ati doesn't really have their own hardware like nvidia does.

 

Really? I didn't see your names on the benchmark scores.. has it not been updated?

 

Were still under the Nvidia GTX 260's but in terms of CPU scores I just compared all the people with 820QM's

Just installed Split Second on my M15x, runs really well at high setting but chugs hard on Very high. Not sure yet if i can manually adjust settings (probably an anti aliasing thing)

 

Lol, let's Not b skimpy here. What about gpu score, I kinda owned in that
And overall score which is kinda what I was getting at haha.
It's the end result that counts in the scores at the end of the day lol.

Dammit I wish I coulda done another run with this one last time to beat you two and have the ultimate 820qm machine LOL.

 

Noob question I know but, I've had an M15x for a few years now and have bios version X36 currently. Is there anything stopping me from upgrading to the latest and greatest A08 or whatever bios or is this for a later revision of the m15x?

 

all the new drivers are for the new all powerful M15x, the area 51 model doesn't support these bios. but the x36 is pretty much the best bios for your system.

 

New Synaptics drivers was able to download off their site and are working well so far but not as good as they could.

 

So the mouse is usable now like every other laptop?!?
