Hey I'm here harry, anything thing new going on?
-
-
What's up guys. It IS pretty dead in here. Where did everyone go?
-
My display driver keeps crashing. I've tried the default Dell drivers, and the ATI 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 drivers. I don't know what the problem is and I'm starting to worry it may be a hardware issue. I'll know for sure once I do a clean install later tonight or tomorrow.
-
sup villosa, just chillin bro, tryin to stay out of this heat, lol.
EOM what bios are you on? -
A05. I guess I should upgrade.
-
no i like the A05 better, i had the driver crash problem alot with the 10.5 nevered happened again once i went back to 10.3. let me see what i can find on this.
-
do you get an option to disable power play in CCC?
-
Oops, I just realized I don't even have CCC anymore. I must have uninstalled it sometime during the huge hassle of switching drivers so many times. I'll go back and reinstall it and see.
-
Uh, is there some kind of trick to get CCC installed? It doesn't install anything when I try run the catalyst install manager.
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
go to config folder and open installmanager.cfg and change WorkaroundInstall=false to WorkaroundInstall=true...
and then install... -
Excellent, that did it. Thanks.
Yeah, I can disable powerplay. Should I?
Edit: I don't think I will, because it downclocks the GPU. -
I'm really happy with my new system so far, besides the display driver problem. I'm not going to worry about it unless the problem persists after my clean install.
I did two separate stress tests with Furmark and Prime95 (simultaneously), each 15 minutes long. No throttling whatsoever and excellent cooling. GPU temps maxed out at 90 degrees and CPU temps maxed out at 70ish.
I think those are pretty good results. What do you guys think about the temps? -
Hi just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Using a USB keyboard (Razer Lycosa here) and one or two keys will randomly stop working i.e. can't type that letter. Everything else seems fine, although if I'm gaming and it's the D key then I keep going right all the time (WASD). On shut down windows 7 goes through it's routine and right at the end blue screens. On restart, everything's fine again. Going on since getting the keyboard - never have this when using M15x's keyboard only. Have latest drivers for keyboard.
Ideas appreciated. -
Sorry, Inap. I switched off the computer shortly after and took the family for a nice dinner on the beach.
The only news is the promise that more work is coming on Monday! Kinda blows. Well, at least I'm watching all WC matches but the quality so far is not what I had expected.
-
It has to be the drivers for the keyboard as I had a similar problem with the same keyboard, not only with my laptop but also my desktop. I just unplug the USB cable and plug it back in and it's fine. Strange?
-
Hi, I just realized when cleaning the screen that has a dead pixel, the laptop was bought about six months ago, if I call for a new screen it will cost me money or the machine is guaranteed in terms of dead pixels?
-
It depends on the location of the dead pixel. If its near the center of the screen, then they will replace it. If in a corner or the sides then have to be 2 or more for replacement. But in reality they don't really check so, just gave them a call, its covered by warranty so you don't pay anything.
-
its one on the down side, tomorrow ill call them
-
I'm sure thats not a problem when you have a m18x.
-
iut depends. Is it a stuck pixel (bright pixel) or really a dead (sub)pixel (black pixel). If it a bright pixel (always on in 1 color) then you are eligible for a replacement independent of the zone. If its a black pixel, then you must have at least 2 complete black pixels...
Look at this policy for the M17x. It also applies to the M15x as I have used it.
And yes, the replacement guy didnt check the screen for me either... So I could have had no dead pixel and still get my screen replaced -
its a black pixel...
-
well, call them tomorrow anyways. If not, you can always try this:
UDPixel
It may be able to fix the pixel. -
ill call them, how long do I have to put the flash on the pixel, and thank you for the help, more rep
-
Well, I just did a clean install, and my display driver is still crashing. I've tried the Dell drivers, the ATI 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5. They all crash.
Edit: I'm probably going to update the BIOS to A06. I don't have any other ideas. -
i would do that before calling up dell and telling them you need a replacement of the gpu.
-
Cool might try that next time instead of restarting. I have found both Razer products I have (Lycosa/Deathadder) to be a bit buggy...
-
I would put it up for at least 5-8 hours. Unfortunately black/dark/dead pixels are lot less likely to go away than stuck/bright pixels. It is still worth a try.
-
i had a spec of dirt stuck between the plastic and the screen thought it was a dead pixel for awhile, then one day i noticed it moved lower, and i tap the plastic and it fell to the bottom, hahahahahhah
yeah most screen fixes don't work. best bet is to call dell. -
inap you need the 940xm once the next bios comes out to have the top of the line system
-
The bios A06 already supports the i7 x40QM and XM processors!
So yeah, I'm back! Got super busy with soccer last weekend, finally back and my finals are beginning this weeks, so I'm gonna be studying my off (hopefully)
I still have that odd issue with my taskbar, and I noticed there's some writing in the bottom right corner, test mode.. I dont get it..
So anyway, here's the pic, gonna reboot and see what happens!
CLick on it..! -
That is kind of weird, Thierry. Hopefully you'll have a bit more time soon bro!
Good luck with the studies by the way!
I will probably have more time from now on as well. I sent back the last batch of work because the client all of sudden lowered my fee to which I obviously will not agree. So I told him I would not work on his project any more until the issue was resolved. He told me there was no issue so I guess I am free again! Yeah yeah!
-
Baw,now it says I have a BDrom, and a CD RW drive
O_O
I have my taskbar back, but it still says windows test mode 7600... -
Wow, that is one strange issue you got going on my friend! When did this start?
-
hahhah, i'm done upgrading for now, maybe just a ram upgrade once the planet align and i get a chance to free up some money. the 940 seem awesome, but only +- 10% increase so i'm ok for know unless i find it for really cheap, hahhah.
man thats wierd bro, maybe when you have time, i suggest a reformat. i just did one a few days ago myself.
yeah!!!!! time to frag it up,lol.
man guys, we need to setup a game date night so everyone can frag it up together.!!!! -
Let's go for it mate!
-
I've updated the BIOS and I'm still having the issue. It seems like maybe it's happening less frequently but that might just be random chance.
-
yeah!! we need more people for a tf2 game night.
think we need to wait for new dell drivers for the 5850 card, same for dell 5870 for m17x at the moment. -
Unless it's a hardware issue. I really don't want to have to get a new card from Dell, it's a brand new computer!
-
and if that were true with every new computer the word lemon would be useless
-
There have always been issues with new releases, but normally after a month or so dell will have a fix.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Try this. Open a cmd window with administrator rights and run this command:
Bcdedit.exe /set TESTSIGNING OFF
Reboot and the test mode watermark should be gone. -
Um no the A06 BIOS doesn't fully support the 940XM. It recognises it, but the BIOS does not yet, as Dell don't have an official release, I think it is only hitting 920XM speeds, not 940XM (on M17x's)
-
thanks for the back up jubbing yea that's is what i meant. i mean you can put it in but you only still have have a 920xm and not a 940xm due to the utilization not being fully enabled for those speeds.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Just open eLeet and check the default settings for the multipliers on the 940. -
I don't officially have my M17x to check that yet, but this is the info I got from Joker who has his machine with the 940XM! His word of mouth is as good as any.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Well, maybe when you get your M17x, you could check. If I recall correctly, Joker was speculating about the cause of benchmark results for the 940 that were below expectations, but he had not had time to investigate the matter further or to arrive at any final conclusions. -
has anyone tried in M15x yet?
-
would like to see an M15X outfitted with the 940xm and 5870 then that would be out bench the 480m with the desktop model they have here
btw this bench cannot be at all realistic as this is done with a desktop i7 940 as to why it beats the 5870 which it shouldn't imo. by that i mean who would by that system too much $ imho -
Yea I'll look into that, but I'm not expecting my M17x till the 25th at a very least. Its expected to arrive are Joker's place by the 22nd.. then he needs to ship it to me. We'll see right.
As for the M15x and 940XM.. i've read people kept saying how the M15x got too hot with the 940XM.. so guaranteed someone has tried it... otherwise how can you say it gets too hot lol.. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Good point. Your M17x will be a beast when it finally arrives. Enjoy.
