My display driver keeps crashing. I've tried the default Dell drivers, and the ATI 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 drivers. I don't know what the problem is and I'm starting to worry it may be a hardware issue. I'll know for sure once I do a clean install later tonight or tomorrow.

Oops, I just realized I don't even have CCC anymore. I must have uninstalled it sometime during the huge hassle of switching drivers so many times. I'll go back and reinstall it and see.

    Excellent, that did it. Thanks.

Yeah, I can disable powerplay. Should I?
Edit: I don't think I will, because it downclocks the GPU.

I'm really happy with my new system so far, besides the display driver problem. I'm not going to worry about it unless the problem persists after my clean install.

I did two separate stress tests with Furmark and Prime95 (simultaneously), each 15 minutes long. No throttling whatsoever and excellent cooling. GPU temps maxed out at 90 degrees and CPU temps maxed out at 70ish.

I think those are pretty good results. What do you guys think about the temps?

Hi just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Using a USB keyboard (Razer Lycosa here) and one or two keys will randomly stop working i.e. can't type that letter. Everything else seems fine, although if I'm gaming and it's the D key then I keep going right all the time (WASD). On shut down windows 7 goes through it's routine and right at the end blue screens. On restart, everything's fine again. Going on since getting the keyboard - never have this when using M15x's keyboard only. Have latest drivers for keyboard.

    Ideas appreciated.

Sorry, Inap. I switched off the computer shortly after and took the family for a nice dinner on the beach.

The only news is the promise that more work is coming on Monday! Kinda blows. Well, at least I'm watching all WC matches but the quality so far is not what I had expected.

It has to be the drivers for the keyboard as I had a similar problem with the same keyboard, not only with my laptop but also my desktop. I just unplug the USB cable and plug it back in and it's fine. Strange?

Hi, I just realized when cleaning the screen that has a dead pixel, the laptop was bought about six months ago, if I call for a new screen it will cost me money or the machine is guaranteed in terms of dead pixels?

It depends on the location of the dead pixel. If its near the center of the screen, then they will replace it. If in a corner or the sides then have to be 2 or more for replacement. But in reality they don't really check so, just gave them a call, its covered by warranty so you don't pay anything.

iut depends. Is it a stuck pixel (bright pixel) or really a dead (sub)pixel (black pixel). If it a bright pixel (always on in 1 color) then you are eligible for a replacement independent of the zone. If its a black pixel, then you must have at least 2 complete black pixels...

Look at this policy for the M17x. It also applies to the M15x as I have used it.

And yes, the replacement guy didnt check the screen for me either... So I could have had no dead pixel and still get my screen replaced

    UDPixel

It may be able to fix the pixel.

Well, I just did a clean install, and my display driver is still crashing. I've tried the Dell drivers, the ATI 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5. They all crash.

Edit: I'm probably going to update the BIOS to A06. I don't have any other ideas.

I would put it up for at least 5-8 hours. Unfortunately black/dark/dead pixels are lot less likely to go away than stuck/bright pixels. It is still worth a try.

i had a spec of dirt stuck between the plastic and the screen thought it was a dead pixel for awhile, then one day i noticed it moved lower, and i tap the plastic and it fell to the bottom, hahahahahhah

yeah most screen fixes don't work. best bet is to call dell.

The bios A06 already supports the i7 x40QM and XM processors!

So yeah, I'm back! Got super busy with soccer last weekend, finally back and my finals are beginning this weeks, so I'm gonna be studying my off (hopefully)
I still have that odd issue with my taskbar, and I noticed there's some writing in the bottom right corner, test mode.. I dont get it..
So anyway, here's the pic, gonna reboot and see what happens!

That is kind of weird, Thierry. Hopefully you'll have a bit more time soon bro!
Good luck with the studies by the way!

I will probably have more time from now on as well. I sent back the last batch of work because the client all of sudden lowered my fee to which I obviously will not agree. So I told him I would not work on his project any more until the issue was resolved. He told me there was no issue so I guess I am free again! Yeah yeah! ;)

yeah!!!!! time to frag it up,lol.

think we need to wait for new dell drivers for the 5850 card, same for dell 5870 for m17x at the moment.

Try this. Open a cmd window with administrator rights and run this command:

    Bcdedit.exe /set TESTSIGNING OFF

Reboot and the test mode watermark should be gone.

Um no the A06 BIOS doesn't fully support the 940XM. It recognises it, but the BIOS does not yet, as Dell don't have an official release, I think it is only hitting 920XM speeds, not 940XM (on M17x's)

Well, maybe when you get your M17x, you could check. If I recall correctly, Joker was speculating about the cause of benchmark results for the 940 that were below expectations, but he had not had time to investigate the matter further or to arrive at any final conclusions.

would like to see an M15X outfitted with the 940xm and 5870 then that would be out bench the 480m with the desktop model they have here

btw this bench cannot be at all realistic as this is done with a desktop i7 940 as to why it beats the 5870 which it shouldn't imo. by that i mean who would by that system too much $ imho

Yea I'll look into that, but I'm not expecting my M17x till the 25th at a very least. Its expected to arrive are Joker's place by the 22nd.. then he needs to ship it to me. We'll see right.

As for the M15x and 940XM.. i've read people kept saying how the M15x got too hot with the 940XM.. so guaranteed someone has tried it... otherwise how can you say it gets too hot lol..
