I have tried all the pastes out there worth trying but always end up back at OCZ so now when ever i run out i just get that instead wasting money on other stuff....

The ICD diamond sounded great until it scratched the heck out of my i7 920xm and the 5870m in the Clevo i had so yeah im never touching that stuff again....

I ended up with the same results as the diamond so it was just a waste plus it caused damage ... Lesson learned...

Wow thanks for the heads up on the ic diamond. Was looking at it last time.but went with ozc instead. I just like non curing and non conducive paste, that why I went with mx-3 but found out ocz was the same.

Just got my new M15x with 5850 a few minutes ago and I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with me, lol. B4 I even turned it on, I turned it over and opened it up to get a good look inside. check the ram stick brands, HDD make and model, GPU setup, etc.. Anyone else have a mind like mine or am I just a Freak of nature ?

My M15x came with a mismatched pair. The 2GB module is a Samsung, and the 1GB module is Hynix.

Also I got the RMA notice to send back my MR5870, but time is limited, but I'm still within the fifteen days.

Regarding the taking thing apart discussion going on, it varies from computer to computer. The M11x has yet to be torn apart, but the M15x has been taken apart more times than I can count already.

Well, after lots of replacement peices (DOAs, wrong parts, etc.) Dell has decided to send me a replacement system.

I asked about it and it appears to be a refurb. Since most of the parts i have are new and i know most work. I'm pretty sure the problem to begin with was with the touch panel asembly but the idiots over the phone insisted it was the motherboard DESPITE my claim.

Anyway i guess what i'm trying to say is if i can just do a few part replacements myself with the refurb and then just send it back. Would they know the difference?

    nope. Dell technicians = garbage

maybe 1 in 10 will be of real help.

Im pretty sure 90% of the ppl on these forums know more than they do... honestly... all they do is read their dumb tech troubleshoot manual that solves obvious problems like a fan not wokring or a gpu overheating... but for the slightly more complex problems... forget it...

And plus... ive taken my laptop apart... and i didnt see any serial numbers on the parts... so you should be good :)

Oh, trust me, i already know they are idiots. XD

It was pretty pleasing to see the Unisys technician they sent to replace the motherboard borderline yell at the technician on the phone as he explained the situation. He was probably the only useful contracted technician to come over.

Anyway he just watched me as i told him "Look, i'm pretty sure the problem ISN'T the mobo, so i'll take care of replacing the part and when it doesn't work you can put me through to someone that actually matters so i can get a replacement."

I think that was the only good feeling part throughout this ordeal.

Lol, I was having some real lagging issues- it would start to hesitate and playing even simple games (Spore, yes, I know, give me a break- I've not played video games in over 12 years :p ) was 'choppy'. I went ahead and reformatted the system and now it's so much faster. I'm not getting any hesitations and encoding Blu-Rays is really quick. :)

I'm having my m5500 painted white- It should be interesting to see the contrast between the black rubber grips, blue LED "Alienware" logo, and the white casing. :)

hmm only restriction you might have is you gotta cure it after paiting at 200°C (390°F) for about 10-15 minutes. Find out what exact material the m15x outer chell is made out of and if it can whithstand that heat without warping.

Personally i think it should be possible :) and really cool.

Today has come the Dell technician to replace the screen, the card and the fan, and it has not the fan, it is not given, and that it had signed up. The funniest part was when I told him I gave him the thermal paste and as soon as I turned around, he had emptied a tube nearly full of artic ceramique of 2.5 grams, at the time temperatures have not risen the before temps...

Well if you want, you could try complaining if your system throttles.

Check the Throttling thread, someone has already proven and complained about throttling and is getting the card replaced with a 5850.

It's worth a shot and the "downgrade" is free.

Definitely do so. Just keep calling till you get someone competent.

The key here is DEFINITELY patience. Also do check the thread i linked to see what examples to show them.

Maybe you can even ask them to remote admin just to show it. If you play WoW it'll more than likely throttle and they can't tell you that it's not a "real world" scenario like with synthetic tests (for ex. furmark).

Now, is this the on-site techs or do they actually cut out the middle man and send you the part directly?

I've complained about their techs but they say that they "have" to send it with a on-site tech. I'm just glad the on-sites don't care and just let me handle the work since they get paid either way.

tech support is supposed to call me today after 4pm, after the last rep i spoke to told me they were going to escalate the throttling problem to lvl 3 tech support (wtv that means). They better tell me they're giving me a 5850! fingers crossed :D

EDIT: yes def call back. took me 3 days of calling twice a day to find acompetent tech. also they log all your calls, so they see if you called 10times, and are more likely to give you what you wantif you called many times before, than if you only call once.

Just say the last techs told you to try things and call back if they didnt work. so you're calling back now, after nothing worked. Thats what i kept saying. wtv you do though, dont lie to them saying techs did this and did that, cuz everything is logged. and if they catch u in alie, its all downhill for you.

yea she even logged the site, as i showed her the 154page thread on throttling on this site. she told me they were going to check out the thread, dosome testing, and call me back with a solution. just got to make sure your polite. dont try the "going crazy till they get fed up and give you what you want" tactic....RARELY works.

Didnt work for me unfortunately. They actually recognised the issue as the throttling issue and ensured that a bios update is on its way and there is nothing he can do for me.

No they actually did not. They were friendly, but very unhelpful as the only answer was:

A bios update is in progress, they dont know when its done. They probably dont know if its going to be done at all. Ill probably try tomorrow again, with eglish speaking folks if I am bored.

Its not a huge deal, since I have the 5870m, but I cant get the sound over DP to work with that. The 5850 works with sound over dp (or hdmi) and offers the same performance

ya might wanna call again, as dell techs are very inconsistent... one will tellyou one thing, and another will tell you something else.... best bet is to keep calling till you find that helpful rep. I told my rep that i was promised the next bios would fix the problem since feb, and 3 came out since then and still nothing. try saying that
