I'm trying to order the seagate GoFlex series of external HDD with the eSata connector. Was wondering if I would be able to use it on the system with the powered eSata port. Any idea about that?

yeah... that's what I'm afraid of. I'm just not sure if I'll need another power adapter / USB power slot will be required to power the external drive. If that is the case, it defeats the purpose of having a portable drive. Might as well go for a regular USB 2.0 connector.

Is that on the DDR5 or the core? Also, what clocks and voltages was that with?

I can't wait to get home tomorrow so I can mess with my GT240 and hopefully (but most likely not) fix the 5870.

On the core but that was the highest temp reported. Stock clocks @ 700|1000 and 1.15v. I don't know if it makes a difference but I can do 120hz on the display with those games also.

Anyone know how big of a difference is the Intel G2 SSD from the Samsung PM800 SSD that the M15x comes with?

Also, what devices use the IR receiver the M15x has?

    Thnx!

My M15x just shipped! Hooray! :D

I've ordered 7-day-delivery (using the free shipping coupon code), so I should see it, at least, by the 14th, although I doubt it will take that long. Does anyone know where in the US the laptops ship from, and which carrier Dell uses? I'm assuming UPS Ground...

Try deviantart.com. The artists on that site are really talented.

I've found that interfacelift.net is my favorite site for getting asesome 1080p wallpapers. Enjoy!

EDIT: I haven't visited the site in a few weeks, there's been a lot of nice new wallpapers put up recently.. works perfect with the M15x's 1080p screen. I just stare at my screen sometimes :D

you should have just asked for a replacement system wit the 5850 in it instead of paying for it as you still had at least 13 days before the 21 replacement/refund date.

Can anyone suggest some backup software? I've always used SynchbackSE but it's limited in what directories you can backup in each profile. What I want is to be able to backup all my save games in one fell swoop. I tried Genie Backup Manager which will let me select all the directories I want in 1 profile but it gives an error each time I exit, doesn't stop it working but it's annoying. What other programs are good?

No thermal pads? Sounds like you got a real winner for a repair tech. Same heatsink is ok but, straight copper sitting on top of your rams sounds like you better get prepared to call them back and be out of a laptop when the gpu dies in the not so distant future.

whoops let me rephrase that...there were only 2. i read somwhere that people said there should be more. the tech at first thought that you didnt normally need thermal paste for gpu's....only cpu's. i was like omg!!! lol

There are only 2 pads and they are just for the memory blocks...

On the Clevo cards they have pads for everything on the card but that would not do any good on the Dell cards since the rest of the card is not making contact with the heatsink ....

Just keep the system on, but leave the gpu heatsink loose. It will crash near instantly if you run Furmark from how fast the temperature will rise.

I totally didn't do this with my M1530.

Omg Talking About Getting New Video Cards!!!

I called Dell just now to complain about the throttling with my GTX 260m... and after about a 30min convo, the tech guy i spoke to said he would most def NOT DOWNGRADE my gpu to the ati 5850m, and would instead UPGRADE to an ati 5970m for free, as long as he sees my gpu throttle during his diagnostic tests.

Now this sounds pretty crazy, and too good to be true? i didnt even know the 5970m was out and available? He said i would have to change motherboard to get that card though, but it would be included since the 260m is defective and causes throttling ( if again, he sees that it does). also mentioned my other options were the 280m. Now either this guy is on crack, or Dell only offers these cards to customers who complain? im not quite sure.... but im keeping my fingers crossed!

Only prob is... i told him i didnt have an internet connection at the moment.... cuz i gotta flash my gpu back to stock voltages, remove any throttling fix programs, and make everything seem stock ( gpu wise). Once im done doing all that, I gotta call him back directly and hes going to run the tests remotely. Man oh man hope it all works out! I even did a quick search on the 5970m.... i didnt find anything.. he said dell just got the 2 weeks ago... bope :S

    Are they on Crack!
The only 5970 is a 2GB desktop card that will obviously not work in a M15x.
Gotta love some of the reps/techs at DELL.
Give them a call back and straighten everything out.
Maybe he thought you had a Desktop???

Yes they are! lol.. there is no such thing as a 5970m.. just finished researching...and nada...anyways i gave him my service tag and he even stated ok i see u have the M15x bla bla bla...and i also CLEARLY specified... " are you sure you're not talking about a 5870m? and hes like yes, we dont offer that card we just got the 5970m".... I'm like i highly doubt it... and he said " well thats what i see available here"... anyways... wtv the case.. i was actually calling to convince them to give me the 5850m since it is a "downgrade" pricewise... and he was insisting he would most definately NOT downgrade me to a lower priced gpu.. and only UPGRADE me.. as that is dell's policy ? Who knows.. but im going to stick with this idiot and call him back... cuz i never heard of dell giving gpu upgrades for the throttling issues with the 260m... i guess he DIDNT get THAT memo LOL...

Anyways any1 know how to flash back to stock voltages.. its been a while and im a lil rusty... +rep for sure

Yeah I'm on the bandwagon of sitting waiting wishing for a different card than my 260M, first I need to buy complete care and a SSD then I can worry about upgrading my annoying GPU :p.

And I still am amazed that my CPU temps are so high. Cleaning out the fan with compressed air helped alot but maybe I should just ask AW to send out a tech and replace the paste before I go ahead and order some MX-3?

Yeah OCZ freeze is the best IMHO ... Super easy to work with , great results and its cheap for how much they give you... Unless your spreading the stuff on like peanut butter one tube should last you quite sometime...
