Download Driver sweeper from Guru3d and install it, then uninstall the current drivers you have through add/remove programs , after that reboot but into safe mode and run Driver Sweeper and have it scan and Clean ATI drivers.... Reboot and install the 10.6s ...

When installing the 10.6s pick custom install and see if it finds your GPU and if its does your good to go but if not you need to edit the installer.cfg in the config directory in the 10.6 drivers with notepad... find the line that says Workaroundinstall=false and change it to True... Then run the ATI installer again and choose custom again and see if it will install the graphics drivers this time...

Thanks! As soon as Dell DataSafe finishes updating, I'll follow these steps. Should I wait for your patched drivers?

Must do as quad says. It'll fix your problems or download the driver already patched that's floating around here somewhere.

Yeah, that's a good idea. The new owners' thread just states to install drivers normally...I think it should be amended to include the patched driver and instructions to use Guru3D DriverSweeper.

So after the pathetic replacement i got my laptop working.

Only thing that bothers the hell out of me is the fact that my keyboard's right side is all dull in compared to the rest. I've power drained and switched keyboards with the replacement and still got that wierd dull area on the right side. It was never like that before... do you guys think it might be the motherboard?

Yeah you may have to swap motherboards to(connector is probably bad on the motherboard for the keyboard had the issue on an M17x) :(... That service tag is tied to the motherboard though so you may have to call someone before you even bother with all this...

You might just want to call them and have them issue yet another system as sad as that sounds because there are just to many issues and differences between the 2 machines...

Yeah i suggested swapping harddrives from the working machine also since it could be software related so he is trying that now....

Its always something with these machines lol... Love the warranties though ;)...

    Done.

Well, why dont you try swapping the keyboards instead? as far as I know the led's are on the keyboard. Maybe its also just loosely connected.

Thanks for updating the New Owners' Thread, Wattos! +rep

Also, sorry for the late response, but thank you very much, Quadzilla! Your steps solved the problem; Catalyst was operating off of Dell drivers instead of the correct ATI drivers. +rep

This laptop really is an awesome beast. After about 4 hours of continuous (albeit low-demand use), it has heated up only slightly, running from AC. I still want to shut it down now, though... :)

I already switched the keyboards, HDD, and have done a power drain.

I'm going to deal with it for now and just complain about the replacement they sent being a total downgrade in comparison to my current laptop. I'll see if they send me another one. Thanks everyone for the input. It's peace of mind so far until i complain about the replacement they sent.

I've just left the replacement alone and only took the part that i knew was screwed up, the touch panel assembly.

Jeez, the things i do to get this baby running. XD

Have you tried reinstalling the Command Center, I believe that refreshes the keyboard's bios.

Well I would think switching HDD's would constitute as a fresh install of the CC since the other HDD was pretty much setup as if it came from the factory.

I'm just going to deal with it for now. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Also, in regards to the 10.6 drivers, Is there a reason to use 10.6 over any of the older ones?

I'm currently using 10.3 and i have no cursor problems.

That'll rule out a currupt install but I was thinking the re-flashing of the keyboard bios on the motherboard may help.

    and just remember:

anytime you re-intall Comand Ceneter and the keyboard drivers...

You most prob have to do a repair installation right after installing it.. shutdown...and do a bios reset to get it working...well at least for me anyways..there wasnt 1 time that it worked right away.

Ahah, same here, I hated spain with passion since they came in as favorite and played like a bunch of teenage girls.. While Netherlands was MY team from the beginning.. :(
Anyways, gotta live with it, the reffing was quite horrible, but I won't start it again :p
in other news, I realized that the only way I could maintain good performance GPU-wise, is to stay at the stock clocks :( Sucks..

hi guys, just wondering if anyone could tell me what are the best most optimal settings for the GTX 260M in the 'Manage 3D Settings' section of the Nvidia control panel? Drivers using are Nvidia's own 197.16.

At the moment they are just at the default settings:

    Ambient Occlusion: Off
    Anisotropic filtering: Application-controlled
    Antialiasing - Gamma correction: On
    Antialiasing - Mode: Application-controlled
    Antialiasing - Setting: Application-controlled
    Antialiasing - Transparency: Off
    Extension limit: Off
    Maximum pre-rendered frames:3
Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration: Multiple display performance mode
Power management mode: Prefer maximum performance
Texture filtering - Anisptropic sample opti..: Off
Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Allow
    Texture filtering - Quality: Quality
Texture filtering - Trilinear optimisation: On
    Threaded optimisation: Auto
    Triple buffering: Off
Vertical sync: Use the 3D application setting

I bet people are gonna say to keep them at default now i've spent the time typing that little lot in

Best settings will always depend on what your doing. In NST there should be profiles already setup for different games and these settings change based on the profile.
