hi, i was benchmarking my m15x with the everest ultimate edition and the program said that my fsb was at 136 mhz, a 2% overclock, is it normal? i didnt use any program to overclock

Woooot
Just got the e-mail from Dell.. my 5850m is on its way
Im so excited! lol... i thought i would've had alot more convincing to do... and was worried they'd tell me to wait for another bios update or something... Went pretty smooth after i FINALLY reach lvl 3 tech support.
Hope they come soon
-
Congrats man .
It will be certainly worth all the effort you put into trying to get it ....
/waves goodbye to throttling -
woot!!! congrats brotha, i'm still waiting for the level 3 techs to call me back
but hopefully will be done in a few days. -
thanks
and check your e-mail. i didnt get no call
-
yeah still probably gonna be another day or so, because level 3 started looking at it yesterday because i call on the weekend. all man your 5850 is gonna be sweet.
-
Is it actually shipped or approved?
-
Approved. I should be getting a call from the on-site service tomorrow, and depending on how booked they are, a tech should be either coming tomorrow evening, or thursday
And wanna hear something amazing? While pushing my luck, fighting for a 5870m since the 5850m is 150$ cheaper than the 260m (i knew it wouldnt work but why not?) the tech told me he cannot do so even if i pay the difference because dell does not offer the 5870m in the M15x...
However, i also mentioned, "hey does the 5850m need a 9cell battery? because i have a 6cell, and the dell.ca site now only offers the 9cell battery with the 5850m" ... he looked into it, and said he also threw in a 9cell both for better airflow with the hotter 5870m, and to help match the price difference
So..... so far complaining about the gtx 260m throttling has gotten me a :
Free 5850m+ a 9 cell battery
Just keeps on getting better
.. Looks like my 6cell is goin in the fridge
-
man, tech just called me. now they are gonna replace my 260 with another 260 hahahhahah. oh well
-
What? I wouldn't have allowed that! LOL
But then again i don't got a 5870 under the hood
-
i was so busy when he called so i didn't want to argue with him. gonna cost me another few days of calling once i get the new card, hahahaha.
-
LAwl that sucks Inap! Also congratz Js, ima have to call them like you did, I want a 5850
Now from serious problem.. I got a CD stuck in my CD drive...
It's the CD I got in the newest PCGamer issue.. But I cant get it out.. Plus I hear this annoying clicking sound every now and then..
Halp? -
try this program:
NirCmd - Windows command line tool
or try pressing eject in bios.
last choice is a popsicle stick with some double sided tape. -
Ugh, this is not working, do you guys think it could be related to the fact that PCGamer now sends ecodisc, which are pretty much thinner!
I feel stoopid, baw! -
Baw! It just got out randomly! No worries guys
-
lol randomness ftw
-
I was just searching for a solution.
-
lol... SoccerT, u make me laugh
Tweezers always seems to do the job for me at work
(for future references)
-
Oh damn, Alienware Tech support REALLY IS all over this site now!
Just got PM'd by a member named caes2004, who is apparently an alienware tech support, looking to investigate on this issue, and wants to know what programs make it throttle, and what my service tag # is...
Not gna give my service tag though.. seems a lil sketchy :s -
Errr, sounds odd indeed..
I was wondering, what is Dell policy with replacement system? I mean, I already got my mobo replaced, what do I have to do to get a replacement system (with the 5850 hopefully
)
-
False alarm, BatBoy wrote to me, explaining shes legit, and wants to help
Please cooperate with her as she is working with the Alienware Egnieering Team to resolve this issue
-
I decided not to comment before, but I was also skeptical of that private message you recieved.
But now that we know this is for real this is going to be great! Things will get done much faster.
I think just giving you a 5850 would end the throttling though. When I had a 5870 in this it was fine.
Something separate now; did anybody else try out the new adjuster for the CPU's TDP/TDC in ThrottleStop? With that my i7-620M doesn't throttle anymore! It can stay at 3.06GHz on both cores now (instead of going back and forth very quickly from multiplier 22 to 23, it just stays at 23). -
maybe i should hit her up then, doh 260 have to go back in. lol
-
Yea my 5850m is on its way
and the TDP/TDC adjusters were greyed out both on my i7 820, and my i7 720...
LOL. Hey inap, your thermal pads from cpu freeze, did they cost about 30$? says ist 13.99 plus 17$ of shipping? Geeze i thought they were supposed to be cheap... ( ok ok 30$ is still pretty cheap but you know...lol) -
not so bad when you order 2 sheets, hahahahaha
-
Are you sure you clicked "Turbo Power Limit..." and not "Turbo Ratio Limit..."?
If it really doesn't work, I find that odd, since it works on both i7-620Ms, as well as being confirmed to work on i7-920XMs. -
Cool, caes2004 has asked me for info too. Will provide it after work
-
Not sure, but probably complain high enough.
Saying my specs are maxed out in terms of CPU/GPU nothing I can get more. I've had a whole system replaced, the gpu and keyboard replaced on the replacement, and now we're trying to get my LED replaced (got 1 ty replacement, 1 meh replacement).
Man I hate how they waste my time and Joker's for that matter. -
Does anyone on here have an M15x with a dual core CPU? It seems okey everyone has quad cores and I would like to know about battery life.
-
Well we had quite a few fellow with i5 and even i3 processor, but I don't remember anyone mentionning battery life. Lemme look out.
-
I guess that this guy has a dual core, but does he have the 9 cell battery?
I've only seen a few people with the i5 or i3. It doesn't seem like anyone is too concerned with battery life, which is understandable for such a heavy laptop. -
Nope, sorry. I have the i7-620M and the six cell. I just use my M11x when I need something with good battery life.
-
How long does the six cell last for you?
-
I get about 2:30 to 3h with the 9cell. Gaming is well over an hour too. I only play low-need games when on battery though since jerky heavy games don't work on battery. (it's like being in stealth mode)
-
I've only had it off the power supply for about half an hour at a time, so I'm not even sure.
-
That's good to hear. I'm guessing that the dual core running on integrated graphics would get 5+ hours with the 9-cell.
-
i've managed to get 2hr, 10mins with my 6cell... but that tweaking it the the extreme to use the least power possible...
I was doign some light web surfing and typing up something for school.
You can expect 1hr30mins avrg time unplugged with a 6cell and i7 720/820 -
Easily I think.. I've heard people with i5s talking about numbers like that
Don't forget to turn down the brightness of the screen and use my low-power alienfx lighting setup if you really need keyboard lighting!

I'm not sure if I missed anything, but the M15x does not support the integrated graphics with the dual core processors. Never have I heard anyone getting beyond 3 hours worth of battery life with the 9-cell, let alone 5+ hours....
-
the integrated cpu is disabled due to the motherboard being the pm55 which does not support that technology so its kinda of a hampered system to begin with battery life.
-
hey mr. pras! what kind of CPU OC were you able to get? i managed to raise it to 160mhz without any problems so far, and decent low 50s temps ( idling)
-
Yeah, I know that now. I had assumed that because the R2s had the option for dual core chips that they supported graphics switching. I guess that I'm getting an MBP after all.
-
Dont do it! You'll end up paying the same price for the MBP for a system that's 1/2 as powerful (Graphically). However, if battery life is essential for you, then I completely understand.
-
I'm still working on 150 for now because I'm trying to compare with stock and with the 920XM..
Anyone here got a 920XM and willing to run some comparison tests with Wprime? Would be much appreciated

Inap... we need you
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I ran wPrime last week with a 920XM. It took 12.63 seconds at stock (factory) settings, 11 seconds +/- with standard overclock and 9.4 seconds with a full overclock. The full overclock times can be reduced, probably significantly, with additional power and cooling (maybe either). Those times were all uploaded to the wPrime scoreboard. -
busy at work today sorry guys, just had the 260 replaced. i'll try to run it in an hour or so.
-
Lol, 260M ftw
Also, just saw you added memory to your lappy, now running 8gb O_O This is getting unholy!
-
yeah rensey gave me an awesome deal on them, couldn't resist, lol.
on phone with tech support again, the throttling saga continues, hahahaha.
