I would choose i5 + 5850 over i7 + 5730. I'm an avid gamer, though.
-
-
Hopefully you don't plan to game like that. Otherwise, I could see 3.
-
So would you say the i7 740m is worth the $90 more over the i5 540m? With my student discount an i5 540m, 5850, 900p LED, 4gb Ram, 250 GB hard drive, is pushing my $1500 budget.
I would be running starcraft 2, COD 4, and making mods for games like that fallout 3 etc.
Is the 5850 GDRR5 memory? (way higher performance with that from what I know). -
Yes, the 5850 is GDDR5. If you're going to play Starcraft II, then the 740 will be pretty nice, as I believe that game is tasking on the CPU. With the 740, you will be sacrificing in the batter department, though.
-
I want one like that!
Good job! -
Looks fantastic, yellow is my favorite color for an Alienware. I like the stripe too, adds a lot to it. Now I'm tempted to get a spare lid/chasis and do the same. -
-
Just re-pasted my cpu with ocz freeze, because dell sent me a new cpu fan and its all connected with the heatsink (my other one made a whining noise every once n a while) and im getting 48*C idle temps (23*C amb) with my cpu OC'd to a 150mhz fsb, when i used to get 54-55*C idle temps with the same OC!
I'm friggin loving this stuffFans kick in a lot less.
-
Nice temps J!
I've been meaning to do OC my GPU even more along with my CPU but i'm a little afraid of doing so since my CPU actually throttles at stock voltages with my 5870 =/ -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Great paint job, Inap. Best looking M15x ever.
-
Damn Jstar who's your rep? =P it seems super easy for you to get replacements parts and all! I don't even try anymore with Dell support lines... But I want a 5850 ( of a 5870 =) ), a new fan (clicking as well) and a new DVD drive (super laggy and stuff).
In other news, I found out I have hyunday parts in my computer...shouldnt I be worried? -
Turns out I got Micron Technologies RAM. Is this a decent company? And what's so different about ram companies?
-
-
-
This laptop is a beast but way overpriced and IMO such a fugly design, it looks like a giant log
-
so why just post what you said just now?
-
-
not a fan of any brand, just trying to buy my first laptop. Alienware is also one of my option but this looks like a tank. Do you all guys use it as a desktop replacement?
-
well any system with similar specs will be about the same size. but your comment was really out of line and is border line trolling.
-
Yeah, I guess most of the people here use it as a desktop replacement. There is no way we can get this beats everywhere with us
And even if we want to, it's really heavy.
If you want a gaming lappy, the alienwares are the best.
Anyways, whatup Inap, I see you got another 5870! -
yup back to full power.lol. tried to find you last night. me and the wiz was playing some tf2.
-
Unless your a 70 pound school girl, you should'nt have trouble carrying this thing around...
yes there's thinner laptops, with 1/3 of the specs, that get twice as hot. So if thats what you're looking for, go for it
BTW VIAO's are friggin overpriced, for not so great performance.
At least Alienware is overpriced, but delivers in the end.
Hp's get too hot.
Sagers are too ugly.
Clevos too chunky.
Asus, well... besides their warranty... i wouldn't get one... bad build quality from what i've heard.
Apple. Even more overpriced than Sony.
Alienware. Overpriced. Big. Amazing build quality. Best Cooling system in a laptop, and allows for the best overclocking experience in a laptop. Fully Customizable and Upgradeable. Amazing aesthetics. Makes a big laptop look sexy and mean at the same time. Should i go on? basically you gotta own one, to know one -
Your username is very apt, drama.
When contemplating which laptop to buy (let alone deciding to make comments out of the blue in a forum dedicated to that laptop), you should decide on which elements are important to you. If you require a long battery life (as in, 4+ hours), portability (excluding the M11x) and the ability to make you a cup of coffee in the morning, then you're looking at the wrong laptop.
If you want raw power, excellent cooling, amazing build quality and good design (the Alienware brand is designed to be bold and spectacular, not sleek and subtle. When people see the laptop they know it's powerful), then the M15x is an excellent choice. -
I guess they are chunky ugly? I don't mind the looks I just mind the keyboards. The D900F looks like the only one with a decent keyboard.
A lot of these posts recently are subjective. My wife prefers her Vaio over my M15x because it's a 16" which is lighter and she doesn't require the gaming power.
Anyway you know what they say...
-
yea i know celvo's are sagers... just you know.. it added more to the point i was tyring to make lolll
and my post was intended as subjective -
Also Jstar, I love my Vaio! :O The keyboard is great, built quality too, the only con is its screen, which is not as bright as the Alienware's...
Overall I had a decent price on it!
Looking to buy a new mouse, since I need one for portability.. i have a pretty good price on the Microsoft Arc, should I get this one? A Blutooth mouse would be even better, but I don,t like the small format of these.. The Arc can actually be folded for traveling but it still has a normal shape! -
Get the Razer Orochi. Only downside is that it's pricey. On the other hand, the Razer Kabuto is pretty crap, and I regret getting it.
-
and all i have is a microsoft blue laser mouse that dell threw in when i bought the laptop. Its supposed to work well on all surfaces (carpet, blanket, leg, floor etc). it doesn't. My desktop wireless Logitech works better than this one. -
this is what i use, works great!!!!
-
My friend's HP burns his lap like crazy even though it's supposed to be an ultra light. My dad's Sony Vaio costs 2k while I found a comparable computer for 1k from HP. Used to have an iMac around. Slower than my HP desktop that cost 2x less.Never had experience with a Sager/Clevo.
-
Ahah!
Just got back form the store with the microsoft Arc mouse, I was about to get the razer orichi, but I alreayd have a DeathAdder anyway...
brb in a few with impressions -
So yeah, it feels great, nothing special, but I had a nice special on it, so I'll probably keep it! I hope it's steady enough!
-
I use a logitech g9x... took awhile to get used to it since iwas using a larger logitech g5 before but it's an AWESOME mouse and looks too. the different grips are nifty too but i dont use em. the weights are neat as well.
-
i use the tact X mouse cause i got it 70% when dell had a sale on it works great. same as the g9x just abducted and turned into an alien.
EDIT: also this video is kinda what happened to the g9x before i got it lol -
ANDDDDDDDDDDD....I've come to the conclusion i need a new mouseRight now i think what Inap's using is better than mine LOL
and hey SoccerT, the arch mouse you're talking about... i think i saw the one you're talking about at furuteshop... its like a Arch (duhh.. lol) that folds in? i used it in the store it felt awesome! if thats the one you're tlaking about... how much was it again?
EDIT: SO who makes more mistakes when typing than me? NO ONE. I always gotta go back n edit it like 3 times before i get rid of all the mistakes.. LOL.. maybe i should start looking at the keyboard more... -
I always go back and proofread everything I type.
I've been thinking about getting a new external keyboard lately- I haven't made up my mind if I want it to be wireless or not... -

The Arc is on sale in best buys @ 49.99$
I agree the Mamba is awesome but it's so damn pricey!
And I didnt like the feel (and price) of the Mx -
Just thought i'd mention this...
For everyone on steam, look up Alien Swarm. The game is an online 4 player co-op game that is free and is a LOT of fun. -
Hey someone told me that you can negotiate the prices down on an Alienware computer like $100 to $200 or so....is this actually true, or was it just some kind of urban legend or something.
-
I quite like my mouse setup. I got a Logitech Performance for gaming and a Logitech Anwhere for portability. They can both work off one USB dongle and the dongle is one of those micro ones so I never have to swap or remove it
-
-
those micro usb dongles are really impressive. i still go with a wired mouse tho since I use my mouse for keybinds
-
Justg hanging qith a bunch of underage drunk people, whats up with y'all?
I love my Microsoft Arc mouse thought -
Watchin Sons of Anarchy and wishing I had an extra grand to upgrade my M15x with hehehe. Oh the crappy life of a student..
-
I can't afford the one with the i7 processor, if I choose a i5 processor will I have a much disadvantages?
btw I'm living in Austria and here it's very pricey. i5 processor with 260m is nearly 1600 euro which is damn still hard to afford -
