Yeah I made that mistake once on another laptop and left a nice big gouge on the bottom, even though it was on the bottom and nobody could see it i knew it was there and I was PO, now I usually use a credit card or something similar to get stubborn parts apart.

Yeah I own a few plastics tools for that sort of job but the M15x is easy enough to do it with your fingers.

yeah thats what my first tech did, used a screw driver to pry it open, and i was like you know your gonna have to replace that place now.lol
once unscrew from the bottome just use your fingers and from the back just pull up and both side will snap up, then just tilt the screen back and the center part will snap up automatically.

Wow that video link was nice!

I didn't think there was a teardown video already. I guess that negates the need for me to do a video of me taking mine apart :p

The M15x is incredible easy to service with one exception. The touch strip is a huge pain. Once that's off, it's all just screws and sliding things.

What is it that makes it hard to read? I remember Mandrake posting a picture he took of his M15x PLL, but it wasn't possible to read the numbers. I'm not sure if this is because the print wears off, or just because it's very small, and the lighting was not optimal. Is the numbering next to or on the PLL itself?

I'd be really curious as to how far an i7-620m could be taken. cleverpsudonym's i5-5x0 wen to almost 4GHz if I remember correctly.

    Yup!
I took me longer than I thought, to tell you the truth I never even gave the M15x a second look when it had the 260 GTX but things have changed for the better, performance and price wise.
It's going to be a long day when I get this laptop :) in a good way

unfortunately... you got the 820qm like i do... so we can't.. only extreme cpu's can be OC'd. But if your just talking about throttling...then all you gotta do is open throttlestop, and turn it on.

What we really need is somebody who's doing something that requires the M15x to be completely disassembled, who can take a picture of both sides of the motherboard with a really good camera.

Hey guys, I'm finally back in Iraq. Was home on leave for almost three weeks. I've missed almost 65 pages worth of benchscores, and would like to get it updated for you all. If you could please repost your top scores only, it would sure save me a lot of reading and reorgainizing as I see there are new players and updates. I'd certainly appreciate it.

    Thanks!

I think I have an astigmatism in at least one eye as well. Curse these oblong lenses!

We can just Google all the chip names once we have them written down.

+1 rep for getting this search going, overclocking will be fun!

Thanks! Yea, I caught it on my way out while waiting in Kuwait. Now I can OC the 1720 if I had the X9000. Does it work with i7 CPUs like the 920 and 940? That was one question I didn't hang around long enough to see

We've had discussions about letting hwbot organize it for us. We just haven't had anyone take the leadership role on it yet.

I've been reading up on that. I think it'd be great, but a lot of work involved. Hopefully someone has the time and drive to step up to it. Is that a 5870 card? or 5850?

The biggest difference is one is red and the other is green. ;)

Actually my second Clevo card is dead and I didn't even benchmark with it. With the Alienware 5870 I pushed it hard in benchmarking and gaming and I have no issues with it. I also have a 5850 coming in for warranty purposes.

lol which ones the green one.. the one from dell im guessing?

and yea im fighting for dell to replace my 260m with a 5850m, and i'm pretty much almost there (i get an answer tues-weds)... and i'm planning on buying a 5870m later in the fall... unless my 5850 can push the same OC'd clocks as the 5870m (apparently there are some in circulation out there that can). Hope i get lucky :)

I've either had bad luck or there is an issue with the Clevo card in these systems.

Yes, Dell charges $300 and it will be covered by warranty and the Dell card is red with a crossfire connection on it.
