i was getting miserable scores with A07 with the 940/5850 combo, so bad that i didn't even take screen shots of it. my cpu would throttle on A07, looks like A08 is a winner, just need to do more testing.

Just ran 3dmark vantage, result was 6929. I used TS to set the CPU to 25 across the board the 260 was set to 650/1050/1575. This is way better that A05 Bios I was using. I could probably get better, but I don't want to fry anything
-
do you have a screenshot?
-
Sorry, did not take one... Was just reporting how the new bios was working for me. I tried a little higher (700/1050/1500) settings, but it the driver stopped responding....I assume this is because I cranked the settings up a little much.
-
yeah 700 is way too much for a 260m, i haven't seen anyone able to push it that far.

thanks rev, still having some throttling when benching but ts is helping.

Might just be begging for mercy.
-
trying to get a kill-o-watt meter to see how much power i'm using when benching.

Attached is a screen shot of the 3d Vantage score from earlier today. This is with the new bios, GTX260, 920XM. Settings were 650/1100/1500.

nice cpu score doc, looks good.

Re-ran. Attached is the screen shot. 7097 is my score, pretty happy with the new bios.

yeah the only thing holding you back from a monster score is the gpu. but overall your system is running great.

my first 21k cpu run. tdp 90/85 26x all across.

Wow nice score this new bios is something else its a surprise that its made a lot of major problems become very minimal but yet still has some serious polish required.
-
When you guys are posting your CPU scores why not include a few more details. A CPU score of 21084 makes me think that you've got your multis set to 26 across the board like the good old days. What TDP/TDC did you need to run to get that score?
-
Wow, thats an awesome score. Its pretty sad the 260 is 100.00 more expensive than the 5850, yet does not come close to perfomance. I received my system and two weeks later the 5850 was offered.
-
When I ran mine, 25 across the board TDP/TDC were sat at 70. My CPU score was in the high 17's.
-
yea same here but mine was right 3 weeks before that and i almost got a refund and then a replacement system with the 5850 but I wasn't sure at the time if it was GDDR5.
-
I thought about it, than I was deployed....
-
yeah i can live with this bios as long as ts stop its from throttling when i oc. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Even more amazing with the card o/c'ed to 980/1100. That has to be drawing a ton of power away from the CPU.
-
Yeah I think its the opposite, I think the cpu is drawing power away from the gpu. Gonna test to see how much power the psu is drawing at the time. Also I use the m17x psu for that run.
-
I honestly wonder... When both under load... which one draws power away from who? I'm no electrician... but i'd imagine the one with the greater power req. will pull from the one with the lower power req.?? Who can enlighten me on this subject
I love to learn new things, and this site is particularly good at doing exactly just that.
I honestly never saw forums with such an amazing user-base. Well i've only been on the alienware forums mostly, and everyone has been so helpful and kind. -

Inap, my comment was addressed to your initial report of your first 21K+ CPU score. Where CPU score is the focus, you need maximum power available for the CPU. The main competitor for that power is the GPU, and the higher the clocks, the more it needs, and therefore the less is available for the CPU. So, in my experience, you get the best CPU benchmark results with the video card downclocked to minimize or reduce, as applicable, power draw. Same idea as turning the screen brightness doown to reduce power use. I have no idea whether the CPU or GPU prevails in a struggle for power, but my point is that any competing power use reduces the power available to the CPU and should be minimized where possible.
-
I wasn't really focused on anything just testing to see if both can handle being oc'ed at same time, without one throttling. But your right I have a feeling something is losing out when both are ran high at the same time.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Probably doesn't matter when you can achieve that kind of performance. It still amazes me what these M15x's are capable of when fully tricked out and overclocked.
-
Just image what we can do if the m15x was supplied with more power, drool heehehe.
-
here is another bench same as before: but tested with kill o watt meter. max was about 165, and only spike that high during the cpu tests. also was done with a 240watt psu.

great score btw, and nice temps at those clocks! you using a cooler underneath? (or as some forum members use... an aircon underneath lol) -
Nope
no cooler, and i have the 6 cellules battery, wood table
Just trying to hit 13000 -
awesome!!! run vantage too
-
Downloading vantage
right now ,
Error on my shot I have a 740QM not a 820QMCPU-Z error
-
or maybe a dell error? and gave you a 840 by accident? :O:O:O:O lolll
-
Windows report it as a 740QM
Damn Dell
-
-
My first runs with 3d mark vantage:
powerplay: on
Stock clocks/settings:
GPU:7246 (little low?)
CPU:12375
P8084
Run #2: GPU overlocked to 800/1050
GPU:8741
CPU:12465
P9447
What I'm worried about is that on ORB, both of these results are pretty close to the line which says "scores below this line represent rather old computers"
I know that this is a laptop but it is a desktop replacement, should the scores be so low? -
-
cheers! -
the ati doesn't have physx, only the nvidia cards need to turn it off for benching, so we can have an even playing field. you can turn it off in the nvidia control panel.
he is getting the high score because of physX, the gpu is helping with the calculations thats why his cpu score is so high. -

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Those scores aren't low; they are dead in line with expectations. My Vantage results at those settings with an 820/5850 are almost identical. Push it on up to 900/1100, and it will easily exceed P10,000. -
yes, i got it to 985 on the core but i haven't really pushed the memory yet, so far i mainly use about 1100-1150 on the memory.
just a note this clock were only used for benching only. -
-
its not fair to compare benches between laptops and desktops... if you were to spend the same amount of money on a desktop (As you did on your m15x) your desktop would blow the m15x outta the water....the whole point is that its in a much more compact form factor, hence the premium price-point.
But just fire up a game, or encode some video, and you'll be reminded that this laptop does indeed, pack some serious punch -
Hey guys! I just ran a 3dvantage test and was wondering if my scores were a little low?? i dont know much about benchmarking.
Running
Windows 7 (64bit), i7 q740 quad core (stock), hd5850, 3gb memory.
3D SCORE - P7978 3DMarks
CPU SCORE - 11568
GRAPHICS SCORE - 7230
These seem very low for this system?
kind regards -
you can get them higher if you OC the card and flash the bios but those look about right to me. You really see some nice numbers and hit 9k score when you start OC
