    Hey people.

Earlier on, I inserted a DVD into my Alienware, wanting to play it. However I realized it was the wrong DVD, so I pulled it out. Unfortunately, the drive thing had engaged and tried to suck the disc in, but (un)luckily for me, I managed to pull the disc out. So the drive made the noise like it was sucking a disc in, then stopped.

This is where the problem began.

So I tried to push another disc in, lo and behold, it could not enter. There was something blocking the entry of the disc. I tried pushing the disc in, and it wouldn't even accept the disc.

I tried the power drain trick, restarting my Alienware, to no avail.

Does anybody know of a solution?

Personally I think It sounds like you've damaged your optical drive. The internal mechanisms are pretty darn sensitive and any force such as that could have easily broke something. I'd call Dell for a tech to come look at it.

If it were me I'd just jam the disc back in there, they say two wrongs make a right!

However I'd stick with the latter.

JAM IT IN?! i tried, but theres some kind of thing inside that prevents me from pushing it in. Its stuck, and its probably stuck at a point around 3/4 the diameter of a dvd.

nothing. absolutely nothing. no sound, no response. its like its dead.

Call a tech. Sooner you call them, the sooner this is over. Just make us some story about how It wouldnt take the disc's one day, they'll replace it.

Yes it would be ok to add those additional items to your list, but what I meant was... If you blatantly tell them that you broke your DVD drive they won't cover it (if you have basic warranty), however if you have advanced warranty (accidental) it covers all damage....

Here is a quote from Section I of Accidental_Damage_Services.pdf which comes default.
Technicly the DVD rom is a internal hard drive. So it would be covered. Also I'm suprised that the Accidental Damage does NOT cover AC adaptor. Its in the limitations paragraph of the same section. Maybe somebody with better "legal" understanding can explain this? :D

Try installing the driver for it, see if that can get it resetted.

nope. theres no driver, and re-flashing the firmware doesnt help. seems i'll have to give dell a call this or next weekend. does anybody in Singapore have any experience with the dell techs? i'm really busy atm and i'm not sure if i want to waste 60 minutes listening to some radio station over the phone.

yeah so i left a message with dell, and surprisingly they called me during my recess break the following day. Dell people will be coming over to my place, so does anyone have any experience with crappy techs? (Just in case i get one, you'll never know.)
