    Hey guys,

Did some searching both here and Google, just wanted some input. I wanna do this myself so a "professional" is out of the question; there are no technical professionals locally, and powder coating is something not done in my region believe it or not.

The clear coat on one side of my machine is pealing away (a finger nail strips it) and the paint is wore down to the black undercoat/primer on the corners - how I honestly do not know. Hence why I want to paint it, it's Lunar Silver, think I'll go with a flat or glossy black - simple.

What is the simplest way to go about it? 800-1000 grit sand paper to the current paint, then prime and paint over original paint? Stripping appears to be a pretty tedious and toxic process.

    Thanks.

I would suggest just buying a new lid (and/or entire case), that would show the best results

A few days back I saw the lid on sale at ebay. keep checking. Also keep an eye in the NBR Market place or make a "Want to Buy" thread there. It'll help! :)

I just have one question. What are all of the parts that make the outside of the case up. Because I need the parts in orderto build the outside of the case. Or a barebone model but like what are all of the parts in need to do this.

Ok but what are all of the parts that make up a case. I want to know what I need to order in order to make a full Alienware M17x case. Like the list of parts to make up the case. Thanks

First thing you have to do is decide whether you're trying to build a M15x or M17x (and if the M17x, which one). Then get a Service Manual for that model from Dell.com and do a little research. What you are contemplating is not child's play; it will require a fair amount of expertise.

I totally agree with the revelator.. you gotta be sure what you are up against. i would suggest that you make hell of a research before that and the cash ready at hand.

I was wondering that you were about to paint M15x.. and now you are off to M17x.. ??

Silver looks so good on those models. I wish they offered it on the R3. I wonder why they discontinued the option?

Both my M17x were silver, had red lids too but they're too spread.
Also the silver lids are not fingerprint magnets as the black and red ;)

Sorry, I am sure that I am going to get the M17x. I also want to get the R2 since it supports dual-gpu solutions. I will add 2 6970ms in it. I also will add 8gb ram. Finally, where is the thread that talks about barebone pcs. Because I want to know that. Thanks for the replies.

Does everything else light up, like your keyboard, trackpad, and front grill? If they are and your screen is not on then that mean you must had brake a wire while you take off your screen. The other thing you can do is open it back up and try to reseat the wire and make sure that it connect correctly.

Yes all of the lights turn on and everything. I just don't want to open it up so I took it to the shop. But yes everything lights up and on just not the screen. So that's a good thing. Everything looks fine then right. Everything turns on.

Check the LCD cables, they can be a pain.
