All battery packs are made by 3rd parties. There are some non-genuine Dell replacement batteries floating around by generic Chinese companies, but those are all 6 cells. I have never run across a non-genuine 9 cell.

Some genuine cells are made by SMP while others simply say "Rechargeable Li-ion Battery" on the label. Usually you can tell by the text and fonts on the label and if the Dell barcode label is present or not.

If you are looking to buy a new battery, post pics of the battery and most people here will be able to spot if it's a non-genuine Dell part.

Original Dell battery. Again, I have never seen any non-genuine Dell 9 cell batteries.

Just for reference, here are some non-genuine Dell batteries for the M15X (notice the text and label differences as well as the missing Dell barcode label):

It doesn't mean that these batteries are necessarily bad, they may be just fine. It just means that they are not genuine Dell parts.

My original 6 cell that came with my laptop from Dell is this exact battery:

Not sure about the 48Wh one? Did it have a Dell barcode on it? [IMG]It could be that different cells were used for later battery packs, lowering the combined mAh or Wh rating. In any event, the difference between 48Wh and 56Wh in the M15X will probably be a few minutes.
