    So if i run on a 3d application(games) a Alienware M15x. Like....anything i dont know where to start....oh heres one... elder scrolls 3: Morrowind.

Not so hard to run when on battery....right? Well apparently it is!... :(
i get 8-9 fps when no ac adapter plugged in. I think it is stealth mode.
But i have un-installed the command center. What an i doing wrong???
Are these machine supposed like this all that time, so i am tethered to the wall all the time? i just ordered a 9 cell should be here in a bit but i know that will not fix it i just want to watch a whole movie. Now do not get me wrong i LOVE THIS LAPTOP...but i just wish i can play at least Morrowind with it not tethered in. :( /cry

    My specs:

    cpu: i7 720qm
    RAM: 4 gigs
Video card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 460m (I had had 240 GT..it did the same thing with the games)
HDD: 5,400 RPM 32mb cache 320GB (i have getting the 500gb hybrid do worry! hahaha)
    screen: WLED 1600x900
    Optical Drive: stadand DVD-ROM rewriteable

so is there a way around this? so i can play when no tethered into the wall? A program? I dont know.

    Please help,

    Lorddinky

Not gonna work, stealth mode is on by default when using battery mainly to save battery. If you were running full power, your battery will be depleted within 15 minutes not to mention the long term damage it will have on the battery with such a high power draw. That's why Dell have limited it.

All laptop GPU's clock down at full tilt. Just a fact of using a lappy, you need to plug it in when you game.

Playing Morrowind in chunks of 10 minutes wouldn't be that satisfying.

if i run using the windows high performance profile, throttlestop overclocking my cpu (or forcing it to 100%) and using an overclocking tool on my graphics card (mine's a clevo so it doesn't downclock automatically)....
i get 100% performance without plugging in.
i cannot even tell if my wall socket fell out until my battery is almost dead (which is usually around 25 minutes)

I've never had any problem just keeping it plugged in. I never found a situation where I actually wanted it to be unplugged while I game. But I guess if you're using teh haxorz methods you'll only get about 30 minutes max.

    This made me laugh.

But honestly, I can't believe how often threads like this appear... It's not even a technical question, it's just common sense. You're asking the battery for way more power than it can cough up. Of course it's going to choke.

not quite true, batteries do not work like power adapters.
the increased power requirement will just chew up the stored energy faster.

the power requirements of the laptop will get nowhere near the discharge rate required to damage the battery (in practical terms - a short circuit).

my 9cell m15x battery is 85 "watt hours" meaning it can deliver 85 watts for a total of 1 hr. going above this rating is fine, only it will drain the battery faster.
