This morning I rebooted my m15x. It came up with two beeps and said that my ac adapter wasn't the right one. I'm using the same adapter that came with the system new when I bought it a few years back from dell. I have also noticed that my battery icon says Plugged in/not charging. Any ideas what is going on?

So far I have tried the battery drain trick

also try to turn off adapter warning in BIOS and see what happen?

Are you sure you haven't picked up the laptop and walked off with the charger still plugged in? This happens (which the symptoms you describe) all the time on Dells, chances are you've damaged either the port or the charger end or both.

If you have a friend with an M15x then you can eliminate the charger or the port and act accordingly.

Unfortunately this tends not to be covered by warranty as it's considered accidental damage, and can be a little pricey to repair, given that replacement PSUs cost a fair amount. Not sure if you could get an 'aftermarket' unit, or even a second hand one from the market place.

I had same problem before. It is likely that the adapter is bad.

I use my friends M15x adapter to test it out first before I actually bought a new one from ebay.
