Finally got around to doing it. Removed card. Used hair dryer to loosen glue and removed x clamp. Filed posts down to same size as previous cards posts. Used diamond 7 thermal paste and new pads. Reassembled and touch wood all good upto now had system running around 1 1/2 hours now on furmark v1.17.0.0. Back to back. Gpu doesn't go over 62c. Only thing that's bugging me is the fps displayed it's showing max 19 fps? Sure something's wrong. Before I was able to play for example mw3 on high settings on my gt 240m without a problem and now I tried with the 7970m and even at high settings it feels very laggy. Checked to see if my gpu drivers are upto date and they are. Any help or advise guys would be appreciated. I'm using a 180w psu.

No need to start a new thread, you asked this already in your other thread. ;)

Thought I'd start a new post with the specific title for my problem.

By the way should I remove centre pin on the 180w as I still have the 150w which I could use to charge the battery. Also my bios is still A08, tried updating to A09 with no luck. Contacted dell support but they didn't have a clue by the sound of it. I created a DOS bootable usb with the files on root and no luck. Then tried the .exe file but still no luck. Kept coming up with the message 'this file already exists do you want to overwrite it'. To my knowledge I deleted all the files I previously downloaded but each time I try it comes up with the same message.

As long as you are aware that you won't be able to charge your battery again with the 180W adapter, then pulling the pin off that and using your 150W for charging is an option. Make sure to turn off adapter warnings in the BIOS.

As far as the BIOS, you should be on A09 by now. Perhaps you weren't doing something right. Try this:

First make sure your AC power is connected and your battery is plugged in with a good amount of charge level in case mains power goes out.

1- Download the A09 executable from Dell
    http://downloads.dell.com/bios/R293649.exe
    2- Download Rufus
    https://rufus.akeo.ie/
3- Open Rufus and format your USB drive (make sure there's no data on there because it will be wiped). Just choose the USB drive letter if it is not already selected, leave all default options, and make sure "Create a Bootable Disk using: FreeDOS" is selected.
4- Open the Dell executable. When asked for the extraction location, choose the root of your formatted USB drive.
5- Restart the computer, and press F12 for the boot menu. Choose the USB drive.
6- In DOS, type: cd M15R1A09 and press enter. Then type the letter f and press enter. The flashing should begin.

Going to give it a go tonight after work. I did all the above previously. Used rufus booted through f12. Booted up with a black screen with c/: but I didn't know what to type. That's when I called dell and they was useless.

Just follow my instructions. It should work. Make sure to download the executable Bios file I linked and not the ISO from Dell's site.

Sounds very much like GPU throttling. Try enable stealth mode, disable it and then reboot. If you have an extreme CPU, try run it at default, without overclock. And I agree on kosti s post. It should be that simple to flash.

Haha did do after like 30 mins of panicking . What could I use to pull the pin. Tried bending the pin so it would snap without damaging sides but no luck lol.

kosti I could do with your expertise. Pulled pin on 180w psu. Disabled stealth mode and rebooted. Opened furmark and still getting max of 21 fps. Opened gpu-z and checking sensors it shows core clock at 450 MHz max and memory clock at 300 MHz. Any advice please?

Confirm that stealth mode is disabled. If you want to check if your clocks are right, you can open up GPU-Z and click the little question mark next to the Bus Interface section to start a render test.

Run a benchmark like 3Dmark Firestrike and compare your results on their website with others using the same card.

When you did this mod on your m15x did you run into this problem? I also noticed I hadn't uninstalled the previous nvidia drivers which I now have do you think I should uninstall all my current gpu drivers and try a reinstall?

I remember throttling still occasionally occurring on mine even after the pin mod. My fix was to toggle stealth mode on and off, and restart the computer. After doing that, throttling stopped. My 7970M didn't last long for me and now I am using a Firepro m6000.

A good tool for toggling stealth mode without using the touch strip.

And yeah, you should remove those unused drivers but I doubt that's what's causing the throttling.
