Hi everyone, As the title suggests...I have an Alienware M15x. The specs are in my signature below. I have yet to receive the GPU, but I am curious to see how it would pan out on my laptop. Anyone try using an 8970M with an M15x? Would I be able to OC the sucker? I have a 240W PSU and will moderately OC the CPU. If I am able to OC the 8970M, How would I go about doing it? What settings would be ideal in this situation? Thanks in advance! ;)

There is no need to OC the 8970M.. It's good enough now for almost all games... Focus on ocing your CPU.

I haven't seen any m15'x with 8970m out there. I would recommend you to skip the overclocking at the beginning since it may be possible that the 8970m requires a lot of power.

From what I read, it seems like the 8970M and the 7970M use the same GPU chip and have 100W TDP. From my understanding, the 8970M has a slightly faster clock (50Mhz or so) than the 7970M. I want to see if it will be stable on my M15x at stock first. Once I find that it is, I will post here. However, if it is indeed stable at stock, how would I go about OC'ing it just a little bit? I'm thinking 1000/1500Mhz from the stock 950/1450Mhz config. Thanks in advance!

Do you know if its a Dell card or a Clevo card flashed with a Dell BIOS? Hopefully you won't run into any Enduro problems.
You probably want to head over to Tech Inferno as there are a few people there that have 8970Ms in M15x.
Obviously svl7 got it to work

It will work no question about it. I am hopeful it is Dell as the ebay add says it is for Alienware laptops.

If it is a clevo card you may have to manually control fans but that should be about it. Hopefully it is dell. I also recommend asking SVL 7 specially about the card you got on techinferno and here he pops in occasionally he might be able to tell just from looking at the card on ebay.
