lucky you .. =) ... dont accept anything less than the specs you have, obviously ;-) ...

if they give you an M17x R3, i say take it ... very slightly larger, but so much more options!

i think that gtx560m, core i7 2630qm, 750gb and the full hd screen would be good specs cause the ati card has a high price and they wont give you it for free

If you really about it, and say that you bought the AMD card because you like the features like hydravision, and stuff like "I have had so many issues with nvidia before, and thats the reason I chose amd when I bought my m15x" you might get lucky and get the 6970 if thats still an option

I have had it repaired 4 times in 6 months now but they said last time if it did not fix it this time they would replace it and I got the manager to send me an e-mail, and again it has went faulty, its mainly overheating I think its the GPU which has been replaced, so has the motherboard, two optical drives and the CPU and GPU fans as its running over 100 degrees when I am gaming I just read your thread, I would ask to speak to a manager and ask for replacement

yeah thanks Kratzen I will try my luck with this, I wouldn't even mind paying extra for the 6990m if that is possible, do you happen to know why they stopped doing the 6970 as an option ? I am just trying to gather as much info as I can before I call about the replacement

    ESPECIALLY FOR THIS REASON :

    this is my response

8.14 Dell will repair, or in the event that repair does not occur, replace Product which is defective within a reasonable period & with reasonable care & skill. This may only be varied to the extent reasonably agreed with Consumer.

IT DOE'S NOT STATE UNDER MY WARRANTY THAT YOU WILL REMOVE MY PC FROM ME TO REPAIR IT

your technicans have had remote access to my pc using different stress testing programmes which all techs have said when running the programmes this isnt good but has still run the programmes until severe overheating which has switched the unit off due to excess heat

as i stated im registered disabled and need my pc for day to day dutys i.e. ordering food internet banking

the unit has had 3 CPU heatsinks, 1 GPU heatsink, 1 ac power adaptor all of which exceeds 95 degrees constantly also a need screen and a keyboard

I WILL NOT LET YOU TAKE THE UNIT FOR REPAIR AS ITS NOT STATED IN MY WARRANTY

NOTHING IS STATED IN DELL'S WARRANTY TO REMOVE MY UNIT FROM ME

    Dear Mr. Jenkins,

    Especially for this reason:
loading all this HEAT cannot be good for the other parts in this M15X i.e. hardrive, memory, graphics card and fan, cpu and fanthe system requires a complete diagnose in the depot. The fact that replacements of heatsinks and fans didn’t resolve your overheating issue, points to an unknown source of overheating that is not diagnosable via phone. In this cases our support technicians are disabled to send onsite technicians and have to take the system to our service facility, where existing hardware issues can be diagnosed with better accuracy and resolved at nearly 100% of the cases.
This better resolution rate is related to additional diagnostic-tools that are available at our service facilities.

Generally the heatsinks and fans are not repaired, as this is more cost-intensive than a replacement the entire part with a new one. This doesn’t exclude the use of a “like new”(refurbished) part. This parts are tested and functional parts from disassembled Dell-computers(canceled systems). But nevertheless if there is chance to receive a refurbished part, you agreed by accepting the T&C’s during the order process. In our T&C’S point 8.8 you are informed that we use “components which are new or equivalent to new in accordance with industry standards and practice” what means(new, refurbish or repaired).

Please accept our offer of a repair in one of our service facilities, because this is the only applicable and most reasonable way to resolve a hardware problem.

    I hope for your understanding.

    With best regards
    Sebastian

    DEAR SIR/MADAM

Ive had several repairs to the following ALIENWARE M15X LAPTOP however after several attempts to rectify the problems the unit is still faulty, im now on first name terms with your repair man Steve he's been to me so many times, im a disabled person who needs my laptop as i order my day to day shopping, pay bills, and communicate with the outside world, im NOT 100% happy to let you take my M15X for 7-10 days when i have NBD repair.

I cannot fault your ALIENWARE call centre or your repair service, however your product is another thing, i would find it very interesting to know if you are using NEW PARTS or REPAIRED/REFURBED PARTS to rectify problems as ive had several CPU HEATSINKS and SEVERAL GRAPHIC CARDS + FANS, when the ALIENWARE M15X overheats there is a burning smell coming from the M15X however your repair man has assured me there's nothing burning or melted in the M15X and he has shown me the inside to assure me.

Im also having problems playing any movie/game due to the overheating also my web pages takes its time loading all this HEAT cannot be good for the other parts in this M15X i.e. hardrive, memory, graphics card and fan, cpu and fan, motherboard, wireless controller ETC ETC .
your ALIENWARE call centre has advised me to contact you regarding these problems to see how you will rectify this faulty M15X ive contacted the call centre over 9 times regarding these faults spent well over 30 hours of my time to help your engineers to diagnose faults on this unit and im still having issues with this TOP END ALIENWARE M15X.

take it, its a new computer, if you want another m15x ask for one. if they don't have another m15x get a referb and ask for extended warranty.

the decision is up to you.

I've got to be honest with you Jenko, if you'd just sucked it up and sent it off for repair you'd have had it back already and probably been issue free.

Your tech, Steve, could well be the issue here. There are so many varying levels of skill with the techs that attend to resolve these issues, and just because he's probably a nice guy doesn't mean that he's carrying out these repairs to a decent standard.

I understand you're disabled, but is there literally no way you can exist without your laptop for a few days?
