I know this is going to sound stupid, but can you check and make sure whatever plug converter you are using is providing power?

so, you cant get to the F2 (bios) or F8 during boot up?
    .
'wont turn on', leads me to believe you should try the power drain trick.
    .
remove the battery and power adapter from the laptop, then press --and hold for 20 seconds-- the power button.
release the power button then replace the battery and attempt to turn on the laptop.
    .
let us know if you had any success or change. -peace, hubs-

selvator, are any of the caps nums or scroll lock keys flashing at all?

does the charger ring light (blue) turn off when you plug it in to the laptop or try pushing the laptop's power button?

    Ok another "stupid" question:

Is the lit part plugged all the way into the laptop? I know it's relatively loose and can fall out easily; it might be offset a little and not fully contacting the socket

The light will always be on on the charger end piece that plugs into the laptop as long as the power is in the wall. That light indicator is only power, not if it's plugged in

I second this. It happened to me a few days ago, and if this is the case it really isn't a big deal.

However, if there are num lock/caps lock/scroll lock lights flashing, that means something really is wrong.

Nope i cant get to the F2 or F8, the socket isnt loose and nothing is flashing

I tried to do the power drain trick you just mentioned and nothing happened also noticed that when i plug in the adapter the alienhead doesnt glow

ok, these lead me to believe the battery is totally dead and the power adapter isnt connecting to the motherboard. even a weak battery will glow the alien head (typically red).
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it really sounds like the power adapter, on the mother board, came loose (bad solder) and would need tech support to replace the board. (no body re-solders motherboards any longer.) time to call 866 (dell support) they are less busy on wekends (shrugs).
do any other nbr members have other observations?

I had an issue where i would press the power button, it would then turn on for 1 second, then turn off for a second then it would come back on and boot up!!

Tried new BIOS and many power drians which did not fic the issue.

What i did in the end was remove the battery, power drain, default the BIOS then it worked. I left the battery out for a few days, put it back and now it's fine.

I had the same problem with my first generation M15x. Dell sent a technician down 3 times to change the motherboard but to no avail. The problem in the end was that the component/connector between the motherboard and the power adapter went kaput and had to be replaced.

So basically if your adapter lights, battery lights, alienhead doesn't, there might be a chance that you're in a similar situation I was in.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am having similar problems. I have an Alienware M5500-R3(or M5550 I think is the correct term) and it refuses to power on. I was using it fine, told it to restart, and now it wont come back on. The power light is on, and the wireless light responds to the manual switch still. The scroll, num, and caps lock buttons all flash once on hitting the power button as usual. Then it just sits there. No BIOS start up, even with hitting F8 or F2. Adapter is plugged in correctly, and has power, alien head on the back of system lights also. Tried the unplug, remove battery, and hold power button to no avail. About to pull the CMOS back up battery and let it sit. Any other options or suggestions? Thanks

I'm having a similar problem working on a friends Alienware Area 51 Desktop. Everytime the PC is shutdown (fully) it will not turn back on until I have went over and performed a power drain (Unplug & Hold power button) I cannot for the life of me figure out why it continuously does this. But when the desktop is having its fit the alienware power button is flashing green. Any thoughts would be helpfull.
