    Currently running on 335.23.

As you can see, Nvidia Experience doesn't detect any new drivers for my 680m.

However, if I go to Nvidia.com and search for 680m drivers running on Win 8.1, every result on the first page is a set of drivers that are newer than 335.23.

I've decided that it's time to update my 680m's drivers because I've run into a problem with the card throttling in a game (specifically Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes) after about 20 minutes of playtime.
The newest driver available for the 680m, 347.09, specifically mentions in the description "Best gaming experience for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes". The card wasn't detected during Nvidia's System Check, so I modded the driver's .inf file and ran the setup wizard again. During the installation, the screen goes black and remains that way (I even left it on overnight just to make sure). After this happens, I must power down my laptop by holding the power button. If I go back to Nvidia Experience, it still claims I'm running 335.23. I've tried redownloading 347.09, tried running a clean install, and I've also tried downloading and installing 344.75, but the same results occurred. When I ran the clean install, the laptop booted up with no Nvidia drivers. I couldn't remember which driver version I was running on before, so I used System Restore to set me back a day before I tried updating.

Am I forgetting a step or something? It's been quite a while since I've updated my card's drivers.

Hmm that is strange. You sure you modded the driver properly.

Perhaps run driver sweeper to make sure all remnants of the old NVidia drivers are removed.

    Thanks for the quick responses!

Here is a direct paste of my modded .inf: Modded 680m inf - Pastebin.com

I believe I have the strings where they need to be. You can find both of them by searching for "11a0"

I tried both of your suggestions; Disabling High Definition Audio in the BIOS and using Driver Sweeper. This is what resulted:

Are you using Windows 8 or 8.1 ?

If yes, have you tried boot with disable drive signature?
Keep disable audio in bios and try this...
