I recently did a system recovery on my M15x because I had a virus that my software couldn't get rid of. After the recovery (and installation of drivers), I've noticed a few issues. The first thing I noticed was that the computer is running slowly, even when it's just starting up. When I go on the task manager, it says I'm using up 100% of the CPU. The other problem I've had is with all the software, after launching, most of the software or application I launch says not responding. After that, the applications just freeze (and the task manager won't close them). Does anybody have any ideas on the problem?

Of course, the first thing is to make sure you didn't brush against the Stealth button accidentally. I've done that more than once - and the slowdown is really dramatic.

Next step would be to make sure all 4 processor cores are active (task manager can show you this).

Then I'd check Task Manager with no other applications running to see if something is hogging CPU time.

Good luck - system recovery is not fun.

First of all, thanks for replying and trying to help. I checked the stealth mode, and it isn't on. I just checked the processors and all of them are active, with the CPU Usage averaging 76% with nothing running. I've been reading that the alienware resource disc can cause problems, but would it cause anything like this?

Ok, after searching on this site for the same problem, I've figured it out. It was my antivirus software (Panda). After uninstalling it, my CPU Usage went down to about 7%. Now the only thing I need help with is my mouse. When I'm typing, if the cursor is over some text, it causes me to typeover where the cursor is.

I changed from Mcafee to Avast, I noticed big difference. Not sure what it was about the Mcafee that was making the CPU run so much harder.

is it because you're tapping the mousepad with your palm?
in the system tray, is there a "synaptics pointing device"? right click it and select properties... if not, your mouse drivers may need to be installed.

when the mouse drivers are installed,
right click the system tray icon and click properties,
    goto device settings
once here, you can up the palmcheck feature found under pointing -> sensitivity -> palmcheck.
    increase/decrease the sensitivity as required.

If you prefer to use the mouse, you can change the Synaptic setting so that the touchpad is disabled when a mouse is installed. It's under the Mouse driver in Control Panel.

Thanks for the help, the touchpad wasn't disabled. Now, I think I've fixed all the problems (with the help of this forum).

Kaspersky really uses all 4 cores when you let idle, in my experiences anyway. Always went back and forth b/w Norton 360 & Kaspersky, but I think the latter bests Norton with all the extra CPU power.
Sorry going off topic, just a suggestion :p
