I just reinstalled windows 7 on my m15x and my processor used to be rated at 7.4 on windows experience index. Now it seems slower and sure enough it is down at 3.4

what do I do? is there something I have to download?

Umm... shouldn't be. Only thing I'd say to check is make sure all the cores are enabled in the BIOS, as well as hyperthreading. I'm not even sure if Dell's BIOSs will let you disable/enable those things in the first place though.

    Edit: LOL, or that.

ahaha true! thank you so much guys. Stealth mode was on and the reason why I reinstalled in the first place. What is the point in stealth mode anyway?

First reinstallation I thought i had a virus. but it ended up being stealth mode. I wish alienware would give you an obvious heads up about this feature.

EDIT: All is well now... except my ram is 0.1 lower but it wont make that much of a difference

Stealth mode is for power-saving. I'm pretty sure that there's a utility someone on these forums designed that lets you see whether stealth mode is on or off. I'm sure it'll get posted to this thread now that I've mentioned, it, though ^^.

There is a special tool I forgot where. Stealth mode is for when you need a some power and you have to use a PSU not designed for the M15x like one from another laptop that is rated lower otherwise it will fry it.

The indicator above the keyboard (the speedometer) is brighter when stealth mode is on, compared to when it's off.

lol, i had the same problem with my old area 51 m15x. I installed windows 7 and could not figure out why my processor was stuck at 800mhz. I toggled steath on and off, checked to make sure power settings were on high performance ect and nothing would allow it over 800mhz. Turns out that when i installed the osd, it got corrupted and was constantly running in stealth mode. (thanks to oceanus' help) Uninstalled osd with revo (so it would clean registry items also) reinstalled and bam, jumped to the 2.5ghz it should have been.

Same issue here as well... was listening to Pandora last night... started transferring a file from an SD card to my HD and the music started to studder... I was like hmmmm until I finally realized I had never turned stealth mode off since earlier that day (I did put the laptop in "standby", however, it must have remembered)

I know it's brighter in stealth mode, however, it's honestly not THAT much brighter and its very easy to miss... a pulse would be much more effective. Whats that program that offers better control over the lights than CC (don't want to take the thread off topic just curious :))
