3GB isn't feeling adequate for Black Ops, so it's time for an upgrade.

Will this work in an M15x? I have an i7-620M if that makes any difference.

Also can the M15x use the XMP features?

Yeah, it will work, but it will default to 1066 speeds; so why not just get DDR3-1066 or 1333 memory; it will be cheaper.

I probably won't be upgrading the CPU, so would this be a better option?

Upgrading your RAM is a good idea imo, but don't expect a huge improvement of Black Ops due to the RAM...

If it doesn't perform well check your config files whether multiGPU is set to 0 and multithreaded_device to 1. If not change the values. This really improved the performance for me.

going from 3 to 8 gigs will make multitasking SO much better ^_^

for example, when I had 3 in this guy originally I couldn't tab out of SC2 very fast now with 8 gigs, I can switch back and farther between facebook and Sc2 in a heart beat.

I can't wait for Black Ops to be like that. :p COD4 minimizes easily, but Black Ops takes so much time transferring things back and forth from the page file.

When you run the game in window mode it will be much faster when alt+tabbing out. At least that's what I experience... huge difference and no lag in the game for the other players (when you're host in zombies for example)
