Alright, I haven't been around in a while and my searches didn't come up with anything so I'd figure I'd make a new thread.

I know some folks will often replace the cells in their laptop batteries. I'm curious has anyone here has successfully done it with the 9 cell battery?

I know, I know, it's probably not worth it at all but I like doing stuff like this so I wanted to know if it was even possible.

I tried it with my 9 cell and failed miserably. The problem is not replacing the cells, its getting to the cells. The battery pack is sealed with all types of glue and trying to pry it open to get to the cells will destroy the plastic. I ended up mangling mine real bad and I still couldn't get the thing open to get to the cells.

I regret doing this because the 9 cell is very rare nowadays and even if it's completely dead, it still serves a purpose by lifting the laptop at an angle for better airflow. I ended up finding a new 9 cell on e-bay a couple of months ago but I paid $150 for it. They're gonna get harder and harder to find now. I do see a lot of 6 cells though, and there are some companies that make aftermarket 6 cells for the M15X, but I've never seen an aftermarket 9 cell.

Ouch, sounds rough. I guess I'll just keep it for the sake of have the back lifted.

Thing only lasts for an hour lol

An hour is still good based on your specs. Mine didn't even last 5 minutes with a 240m GT and 720qm combo, and about a minute with my 460m GTX. When it still was new it lasted a little over an hour, so I'd say yours still has a bit of life left in it. Have you checked the wear level with Hwinfo or HWmonitor?

lol, apparently it's only got 30% wear.

Well, looks like she still has a bit of kick to her.

My battery has totally died (9 cell). As soon as I take the power cable out, it shuts down. Doesn't really bother me that much though. 30% after this long is really good.

Mine had over 80% wear when it acted like that.

@ArchNemesis: You may want to disable charging via the FN+F2 combo. This might help reduce wear over time.

Yeah I've been doing that for a while. I think the only it even has that much wear is because the 9 cell came originally from a refurbished m15x.

Thanks for the heads up though. It seems like it's just not worth taking it apart.

I saw that reseller back when I was looking for a 9 cell. I didn't buy from them because the price seems too good to be true and they only accept wire transfers which I would caution against.

This is interesting. I am going to see how long my 9 cell lasts with my specs :)

Cpu shouldnt factor in much because on battery even the xm clocks at 1.2ghz. Lets see... :)

Edit: 73% wear level. After 55 minutes of browsing and watching youtube battery was at 46% capacity :) this with cooling pad on.
