Every 5 or 10 minutes my screen sets istself to the dimmest setting it can, and I have to adjust the screen brightness back up using FN+F4 to get it back to where I need it.

It started happening a few days ago, but has always done it on the odd occasion, it just does it all the time now.

So I switched off, did the power drain trick, and stared back up again. No luck.

Then I updated the nVidia drivers, again no luck.

The card is as my sig: 460m

Is my card on it's way out? Is there anything else I can try?

My BIOS is @ the latest version, the card's BIOS has never been touched. I'm running Win 8 Pro x64.

    All help appreciated.

    Cheers.

Did you check to make sure your laptop isn't running on Power Save mode under Alienfusion?

No, it does it even when on battery. Incidentally, I have also disabled the 'Dim Screen After....' setting in the power management setting for both battery and plugged in.

This occasionally happens on mine too, from boot-up. Dimming screen after about 10 minutes of idleness, despite all of the options set to never dim the screen. All i have to do is reboot and it goes away, not sure why it's a permanent issue for you though, sorry.

Just an update on this, unfortunately having such a small SSD I only had 2 restores to choose from, and only one to select before the issue arose. Additionally that restore failed - so restoring was not an option.

Soooooo, I ended up going into each power plan in the power options and resetting them to default settings. I hadn't amended any of them, but resetting them to defaults has resolved the issue. None of them were set to dim (I'd switched that option off when I first noticed the issue) but doing this sorted the problem.
