Settings are dependent on Power Plan. Power plan changes from High to Balanced when unplugged. I found changing the unplugged settings in Power doesnt really work.

Advanced Settings (Power/ for plugged in and Balanced when unplugged)

Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan >

Link at bottom left - Advanced Settings

Let me know what you find. -hubs-

Every so often this crops up on my system to. A reboot usually fixes it for a few weeks. You can walk away for a minute, and it goes to the lowest dimming level - despite having maxpower set w/ no dimming allowed. Using several versions of modded ini nvidia drivers too for the geforce 260m.
