Hello. I am looking to re-paste my 460m card soon as i order my MX-4 from amazon, and i thought i should also apply some new thermal pads too, can anyone recommend any to get?

my 460m temps have rising from max of 60-70 degrees whilst gaming to 90+ in certain games, bulletstorm / crysis. I think it's because ive never cleaned it yet tbh!

Anyway i have got Inaps guides and they are very helpful, however ive never applied thermal pads before so im looking for advice.

    thanks in advance!

Thankyou i will take a look!

May sound stupid but as ive never replaced pads before let alone cut them from a sheet. do i need something in particualr to cut them or can i just use a stanley blade or scissors, with the original pads as a template like you mention?

Don't worry too much about the pads, the die is much more important, the VRAM modules don't run that hot. I'm still using the stock pads and it works very well.

You can easily cut them with scissors or with a sharp knife.

    YEP, what he said

Also, you may want to consider removing the pads entirely and using non-conductive thick paste for the vmem chips.

This will allow you to get the best gpu core contact.

Just keep in mind that you will need a lot of paste for the vmem chips (you can gauge how much is needed by looking at the gap size between mem chips and heatsink once pads are removed.

Perfect, thankyou. I've repasted a few CPU's / GPU's in my time so im okay on that front.

Anyway ive been looking for a dell 6970m for the past hour after seeing all the threads concerning it... Haven't read NBR for the past month and look what happens! :)

Well disassembled the laptop today and gave it a good clean out, first it's ever had and was bought it at the beginning of the year

Surprisingly easy to get into, I had heard this before on the forums but was still a bit apprehensive after my last Dell laptop, what a nightmare that was to upgrade!

Anyway - Back to my idle temps of low 40s and maxing out at 65-70. Happy days. Still gonna repaste both CPU and GPU once my MX-4 arrives and try for better temps!

Also elevate the rear of the laptop that will drop your temps by at least 5*

Already do. I have the 9-cell simply for cooling purposes, always running on A/C
