So I'm thinking of buying the following rig:

    Alienware M15x, Lunar Shadow

    Intel® Core™ i5-430M 2.26GHz (2.53GHz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)

    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

    McAfee SecurityCenter, 30-Day Trial

    15.6-inch WideHD+ 1600x900 (900p) WLED

    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz

    500GB SATAII 7,200RPM

    1GB ATI Radeon™ Mobility HD 5850

    Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    Primary - 6-cell (56Watt) Lithium-Ion Battery

    Internal Bluetooth 2.1 Mini-Card - 2.1 Enhanced Data Rate

Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio

All for $1,529.10 (CAD) when my EPP is applied, is this a good deal or not?

looks good to me, i'd personally go with the 1080 screen, and maybe a faster proc.

Well I was on a budget so I couldn't go with one of the better processors, and I don't think I'll really have a need for the 1080 screen.

If you're gonna use it for gaming a dual core would be a good choice for short term. However a quad core might be better if this laptop is meant to last you a long time. As such I would recommend the i7 series. Up to you though, these specs are pretty good either way.

i'd again say a i7 quard core if you can.....and the extra 100.00 or what ever it is on the screen does make a big difference for web surfing, and RTS games. But either way its a solid system, alltho i've always been a sager/asus man myself, im sure it will be bad .

Maybe you could reduce the size of your hard disk, get rid of the bluetooth and put it towards the CPU (i7) you can always buy a bluetooth usb much cheaper that what dell sell the internals ones for.

Well on the website it isn't possible not to have the bluetooth selected, but I guess I could try and negotiate them to take it out and up the CPU instead... And I don't think I'd be comfortable with a smaller hard drive.

An i5-540 or i7-620 would make a huge difference in your gaming experience.

Well I upgraded to the i5-540, which upped the price by 50 CAD, but it's still within my budget.
