First off I DID search for 555M in this forum and in the Alienware forum in general. No results so if this has been discussed sorry.

Does anyone know if the new GT 555M is compatible with the M15x. AFAIK the port is compatible, but no word on BIOS compatibility, power draw, etc.

The GT 555m does not exist as MXM-card, only as on-board solution as far as I know. And it is less powerful than other options for the M15x, e.g. the Nvidia 460m or the ATI 5850m.

If you want to upgrade your GPU the best options are Nvidia 460m, ATI 5850m, 5870m or even 6970m as most powerful option so far (check out the link in my signature for more info)

Nothing to expect... it's just what has been confirmed to work in the M15x. The 6970m is the second best mobile GPU at the moment, and has definitely the best price/performance ratio. A 485m hasn't been tested yet, and future cards may work, but that's pure speculation.
If you need GPU power, get a 6970m.
