So I saw this posted yesterday: WD Unveils the Black Squared Dual Drive | Maximum PC

I've been wanting to upgrade my M15x's storage for a long time. I have a 500GB HDD and I wanted to add an extra SSD I could install my OS on. But I am not okay with removing the slot-loading Blu-Ray drive in order to put an SSD there. Does this WD Dual Drive seem like a viable option for me? Do you guys think the $300 price is worth it?

Not worth $300. Mid range SSD and only 120GB. Also only 1TB HDD.

Out now is the Samsung 2TB HDD for 2.5" 9.5mm. That plus a decent 256GB SSD would probably either cost around the same or perhaps even a shade less!

It is an interesting concept but they must double the capacity of both SSD and HDD components of the drive to interest me at least :D

Also to correct you. You should NEVER put an SSD in your Blu-ray slot. The slot only runs off SATA I. 150mb/s capped. This must be used for a large storage HDD. The main HDD slot is SATA II 300mb/s capped. An SSD will work well there. SATA I = crippled SSD performance.

Great advice about the SSD. I would like to see how the hybrids evolve.

Alright, makes sense to me. Thank you for your quick reply! I guess I will hold off for now on upgrading storage.
