Hello everybody, i am currently looking for a upgrade for my m15x that wont break my pocket, i would spend anywhere from 100-300 for a Video card and 200 -300 dollars for a processor (these purchases would be at completely diffrent times).Problem is i don't know which to upgrade first and whats the best bang for my buck..

    Here are my specs:

    processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M540 @ 2.53Ghz

    Ram: 6 GB

    System Type: 64-Bit

Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5770

    Any Suggestions?

i gonna upgrade my CPU in 1 week time, and i will have i7 720QM for sale soon, maybe u will be interested.. =b, as for price, surely it under 200 bucks, hehe, but with that budget, u can go 920XM directly...

as for GPU, i think for those price range u can get GTx 460M or HD5870

Thank you, Ive seen people talk about the Gtx 460m ALOT, it must be a very good card for the price. And for the Offer i appreciate it, i will keep that in mind. Do you happen to know which to up grade first? or i should say what is more demanding for me to run games at a better performance?

    well from my experience

    1. SSD gives u the best overall performance upgrade.
    2. GPU gaming wise it will give u a really good boost but only in gaming.
    3. CPU since your going from a dual core to quad core, if u go with an extreme processor u will get a nice boost if used with throttlestop.
    4. RAM u wont even notice a difference

as for a price range the GPU, would be more like 300 to 400 and if your a gamer this will probably be your best bet,and requires unistalling old drivers and reinstalling new ones, i have a 6990m that i got for $450, u could find a 460m or a 5850m for about 250-300. As for the CPU u could find an ES 920xm for about 300 on ebay,it basically plug and play, and gaming wise dont expect much difference. But if u upgrade to an SSD u will be amazed by the performance boost on the entire system, that being said the ssd upgrade does require the most work to set up and get running and the price range all depends on the storage size, about $130-300.

^, ah now u mentioned it,

Yes it's really true that SSD give amazing boost, even to old system..., as long as there's no problem with ur SATA speed, SSD will do a good job!

Thank you alll for this information as it is very useful to me. I had to look up the term SSD to figure out what it was lol. But i was really more interested in a Video card up grade and a Processor. but an SSD sounds Really cool too, ill check my SATA and what not and put that on my to do list for upgrades. Ill prolly upgrade the video card first then the SSD then my CPU. my computer should be running quite well within 3 months of input. But whats better out of the 5650m, 6970m, 460m in terms of gaming performance? and Im guessing all mobile GPUs have to be ordered from the web?

5650m<460m<6970m yup they all have to be ordered. I'd suggest looking at ebay or the NBR marketplace ;)

Not to be rude, but not sure why you would consider a 5650 when you already have a 5770 ;)

Anyways, go straight to the 6970 as mentioned above, that will give you a lot of gaming performance. Then go for the 920XM.

I believe this whole 5650 started out as a typo, and just got used incorrectly along the way. Person who originally mentioned it probably meant to type 5850m, and that I would say is either even or maybe better than the gtx 460m in gaming.

@Otosan, before jumping on that 5770 (which I believe is probably a 5730 because I don't ever remember the M15x having any other 57xx mobility card), what card do you have currently?

Not intended to offend anyone, but Otosan don't waste your money on that card. If you are looking at a gpu upgrade go for the 6970m/6990m. Best possible gpu options.

Probably a month after owning my laptop I got it a SSD. Best thing you can do for your laptop. I just upgraded the GPU from crossfire 4870's to a 6990. Leaps and bounds ahead of both of those cards. But, the 6970 isn't too far behind the 6990 spec wise and is roughly $100 cheaper. But, either will be a great way to go. CPU you'll want any quad core. But, you might as well get either the 920Xm or the 940Xm since they're a lot cheaper than they used to be.
