I have maybe 120 days left on my Warranty. What do you recommend doing?

I am a full believer in a 2 year minimum warranty. Three if you know you will have the computer that long. I actually just had a full system replacement from Dell, I am 18mos into a 24month warranty.

My old system was SXPS 1640 with T9550 @2.66hgz, 6GB RAM, 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility Graphics card (not sure what model), and my replacement that is being built now, is an mx15 with i3 370-M, 5730 Graphics card, 8GB of ram.

Because of the warranty, dell replaced a system that was 18mos old, with a brand new AW system. If I didn't have the warranty, then I would SOL with barely working machine.

So ne way, get at least one more year, maybe 2!

Usually Dellienware will contact you before the warranty expires to sell you some additional years... but to be on the safe side contact them yourself or at least make a reminder in your calendar to contact them by time in case they don't contact you.

I had a one year warranty on my M15x, and I just renewed as it was about to run out. I had the complete care (accidental damage) and renewed for $430 for an additional year.

at $430 you were paying for 1/4 of a new machine to insure an old one for a year... With depreciation was it really worth 1/3-1/2 the current value of your machine to insure it for 1 more year? $430 would pay for a video card, or a CPU + Monitor etc, how much stuff are you expecting will break in year 2 on a relatively new machine??

Most electronics are on a bathtub curve anyway so the second year is when the least issues happen. If any they usually happen at the beginning of year 1, or not until year 3-4.

I don't know, personally I just don't see how that's worth it unless you have an "accident"...

430$? That's a lot of money... Before my standard warranty expired (1 year) a couple of months ago Dell contacted me and I bought a 2 year extension ("Next Business Day OnSite Support") for 236$ (converted)...

    Edit: Plus taxes... makes 254$

warranty prices are not locked down, so call multiple reps before actually buying it.

Hmmm, check if ur audio cracks? this will give u a new mainboard.... ;)

With the main board it should last u 2 years or so.....

*mainboard, GFX...1st to fail....due to resistor, capatiors leakage... *wear and tear usage....etc

Square trade has a good reputation as far as I can tell, plus if you use code TWTYOFF at check out you get an additional 20% off of your warranty!

I just emailed Square trade and told them that I had the DEAL30 coupon and just missed the use of it. They sent me a one time use coupon code for 30% off. So 3 years with ADH from Square Trade is only 279.99. That is awesome.
