A guy on another forum tried with a m17x but he gave it up because he couldn't get the cooling to run on a mobile battery. But it worked stationary... Can't remember the link though

you are talking about this one widezu69?
his m15x is so powerful because he has a m15x with 920xm @3.46GHz
    and 6990m @775/1000
and they must make more heat

so he is thinking what about Water Cooled M15x..?

I'm still thinking about it. I need more money and right now I just don't have the funding. I've laid plans for all the tubing and parts. Plus it would render my M15x stationary. I'll see what money I have left after my bills, rent, and various birthdays. Not to mention the money I owe to the GF :p

Well I've spent God knows how long optimising the cooling on my rig including taking a hammer to a small bit on the GPU heatsink because a voltage regulator was in the way now my heatsink sits perfectly on the GPU using MX-4. I have a tube of IC Diamond 24 coming so hopefully it will be even better but as it stands now my CPU when pegged at full on 105/90 with 26x in the Vantage CPU test, I max out at around 81C. GPU after a long session of Crysis 2 using 715/900, the temps will be below 79C with only the MemIO going above 80C.

wow it's much cooler than mine huh
I still need thermal pad for GPU so I cant get benchmark temp.
Also I didnt add anything except changing the silicone grease for GPU and my CPU temp is about 55°C,GPU 65 °C in casual use

I highly recommend MX-4. Well any up market branded thermal paste is better than the no name type that manufacturers use.

im curious what are your ambient/room temps?

coz for me, my idle temps range +-5 degrees depending on the time of day (cold nights, hot days) =D

eg: coldest time of night, idles at 40 degress ..
hottest time of day, idles at 50 degrees!
