New to the forum, and Alienware products. I just received a m17x r2 and the thing is awesome, but it weighs a freaking ton. I've got a pretty decent desktop already, but have a spinal injury that leaves me in a supine or prone position 80% of the time. The whole reason I bought a notebook was to hopefully pass the time gaming, but this M17x is really pushing my physical limitations.

How much lighter is the M15x really? I wanted a super powerful notebook to game for years to come, but should I have compromised further to find something in the 6-7 lbs range?

    Thanks for any advice.

M15x is lighter then the M17x r2 by a few lbs but is still pretty hefty. Have you consider an M14x, should be in the weight range your looking for.

Oddly enough, that's where I started (between the M11x and the M14x). I think my eyes just got too big when I saw what I could get at the outlet for $$. The M15x looked easy to mod/upgrade so that's why I thought I'd ask about it first.

BC2 does play well on this nice big screen, but it's just not gonna work long term. The M14x looks good. Is that basically the best power/performance I'm gonna find in that range?

If you want a light portable laptop, the M15x might not be the way to go. I am in pretty good shape and dont have any back issues, but after walking around a day with this heavy metal beast, my back was acing quite a bit too. As inap said the M14x might be a better choice.
