    Hey guys,

I wanted to start a thread asking people what their temperatures are when the system is under load (a game, etc.). Please specify your specifications and then your temperatures.

The main reason I'm starting this thread is to see how my temperatures look like in comparison to you guys.

    Thanks.

But i use the Zalman 3000U as notebook cooler

Hmm, you use one of those coolers that go below your computer, used a desk kind of thing? I thought those were pointless since there are already two coolers at the bottom of the computer.

Anything that increases the airflow into the intake of a laptop's cooling system will improve cooling.

At stock settings with a 6970M/920XM setup, max CPU temps under load (3dMark11 and 3dMark06) are 62-63C and 68-70C respectively, and max GPU temps are 70-74C; overclocked, max CPU temps increase to 70-72C and 76-79C (@ 25x), with max GPU to 76-80C (@830/1000). Vantage CPU temps are the same at stock clocks, but GPU temps increase to 74-78C (@ 700/900); under hard o/c in Vantage, max CPU temps increase to 78-82C (@ 26x), with GPU temps topping out around 82-85C (@835/1100).

Errr, my system is no where near yours, why are our temps almost identical?

I have the 720QM and I idle around 52C, and when playing a game I go to about 63/64C.

My Vid card is the 260M, and my idle temps are around 55C and under gaming I fall just below 70C.

    Is this normal?

Hah, mines got terrible temps, I'm repasting. 5870 idles at 75C and hit 100C in MW2, shut it off immediatly. The 720QM idles at 64C and hit 80C. Ouuuch.

That's not good man. A clean out of the system and a repaste ought to help that out. Yeesh that is high.

Nooope. I only ran one game, checked the temps, and just shut it down. Odd thing is, its not dusty inside, or anything. Hmmm.... For the record, it was on a flat desk and it has a 6-cell, so, it may have restricted airflow.

Well, my 920xm idles at 38-42C, so I have more headroom, but more than that, it suggests I have better paste/passive cooling to handle the load temps. Besides, neither of these i7 quad CPU's are really working that hard in a typical game scenario. And remember, when o/c'ed (more common then not), the 920xm temps increase substantially.

    Good plan. :D

Well, at the time I thought those were great temps. Coming from the Acer 8920G, they are amazing temps to me.

Then I saw your temps and thought maybe something was wrong.

Sorry for the Noob question ,, but what exactly is the overclocked Temp and where you tell.

I have GPU-Z ,, and my GPU temp is idle between 38-42 ,, and although i only just stuck Empire T War on for a few secs ,, ran a tutorial,, the highest it got was 64,, averaging about 62.

Going to check it out on Crysis later and have a look after an hour or so.

THe overclocked temp is the same place you read all your other temps but it is when your Graphics Card is overclocked.

Overclocking your graphics card is to push it's performance higher, done using software such as MSI Afterburner.

Sorry if this thread is only for M15x. I will go ahead and post my M17x temps as it has 2x 5870m cards, which alot of people use in the M15x anyway

My temps (for both cards) are in the bottom right corner in the thumbnailed image. Sometimes I get a few degrees C higher than this.

i think its important to set some standards and controls so that everyone gets a good idea of what to expect under same world scenarios. Eg:

    1) Room temperature when running tests
    2) Extra cooling devices in use
    3) Air flow to notebook (9cell which raises the notebook vs 6cell which leaves the notebook almost flat to the desk)
    4) Software used to push up the temps (we should all use the same benchmarking software to keep the results as consistent as possible)
    5) Software used monitor the temps (we should all use the same monitoring software to keep the results as consistent as possible)
    6) Clock speeds used in the tests
    7) And of course, notebooks specs ;-)

With regards to what software to use, i leave it to the gurus to define that, as im rather new to benchmarking and monitoring too =)

My GPU idles at 50c average and maxes out at 90c, to what I've seen, hasn't gotten higher.

Was wondering, would overclocking my GPU affect my CPU temperatures? And with my current temperatures, would you recommend OCing?

I currentlly have a 720QM i7 w/ Nvidia 240M and running a game on the best settings possible with an overclock 665/948/1562 and I only get up to 70c and thats with no cooling pad or anything. Looking to upgrade to a 5870 so not sure what to expect for temps after that.

the 240m is way cooler than the 5870m so your temps will go up a little bit but not too bad

I am curious to know what are the room temperatures as well.

And it would be best if we all ran the same benchmarking software. Any recommendations? =D

Yea that's pretty hot. Thermal paste probably needs to be reapplied. NBR suggests MX-4, which is about $10.

For some reason my temperatures stopped hitting 100c, now I'm noticing it's hitting 80c maximum. I opened up my system and the thermal paste is completely dry. The problem here is that thermal paste is not available at my current location. The best/only thermal paste I can get my hands on is from Dell, and they're charging about 20 cents (converted to USD) to bring in thermal paste. I'm afraid of what they are going to use.

Its pretty high while using often 55+°C
