    Hi All,

Nice forum and thanks for all of the information. I've been lurking for some time.

I bought a dell 7970m from ebay to upgrade my m15x from the gtx460m that is currently has. I'm wondering if the card shipped is a dud, or if I have done something wrong in the installation.

My current desktop looks like this: Red.png
Strange red hue's all over the place.

I ran the f12 diagnostics, the colored lines look similarly hued in that test.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Ok, so I just reviewed my post and see that the screenshot looks fine!

So it looks like it is an issue with the screen itself... Could this have been caused when I took the power button covering off and disconnected the ribbon cable? Perhaps it's not seated properly?

Try to see if the same thing happens on an external monitor in order to determine if the issue is from the video card or the monitor.

Chances are that's with the GPU. My only reason for this is that you never mentioned such issues with your display using the 460m. Put in an external and you'll see your display working just fine. It happened to me on my previous 7970m. I got shipped one with a crazy green screen that looks fine on external. I sent it back and had them test internal and external displays.

Have the GPU replaced. they'll do that for sure.

Just wondering why did you disconnect the screen ribbon cable to change the GPU? You don:t have to touch the front unless you want to change the power button/instrument panel, keyboard, wi-fi card, keyboard, trackpad or disc drive.

I would suggest the external monitor method as well.

Wrong wrong wrong. Why would it be the gpu if he reviewed the screenshot and there is no red hue that shows it's screen related. He also told us he might of juggled the monitor cable of not connected it properly why would you jump to yet another gpu. He could easily see if it was the gpu by trying to fix the monitor cable .. Checking if this works .. If not just putting then the old gpu in .. If this works THEN you look for compatibility issues not just assume the gpu is bad as is the case in your post.

Still would love to know why he even had to touch the cable to change the GPU!

Here's my 2 cents on the matter - if you have the EDID ticked on in Catalyst Control Center, you will get that reddish hue, so try turning it off. Another reason might be if you use the software f.lux.
