I want to upgrade the CPU in my alienware m15x, from i3-370M to a 820/940QM/XM.

I dont want to get it off ebay, I want to buy it personally in a store. Are there any known stores in Melbourne that sell these CPU's?

    Thanks so much!

They're going to be VERY expensive in retail channels.

You think? I saw them on ebay for 250-300? Would it be way more expensive in retail?

i7-820QM goes for $600 on newegg. Still, I don't know of any sellers in Australia...

Yep, and a 940XM is going to be around $1200. Any reason you're so strongly against ebay?

Yeah, I have been on eBay for almost 6 years+. The amount I lost on scams gets over 3000 dollar. Just by people not describing their auction proper or, misleading, not sending, claiming their products for "not received" when they actually did. Kind of done with eBay haha.

That sucks. I've yet to have one thing go bad on there, but I guess I've been lucky.

Ya you have to be careful on Ebay, lot of shady people. Then again, you also find some amazing deals. Try searching in the marketplace here, there is a guy selling a 920xm for $450, its an OEM SLBLW. Look in the computer components area.

The key is going through the negative feedback before bidding. If the guy's scamming, there'll be signs.

I personally haven't had any bad experience to date on Ebay, so I love it. However, I do know of people who haven't had the best of experiences.
