So they finally replied to me and said £339 for the 970M shipped to London. Its quite expensive but do you think its worth it? I currently have a 7970m, how much performance increase would I expect?

They offered me one delivered to UK in December for €373 which equates to around £280. You sure on that figure? I doubt the price has gone up in such a short time.

    You can compare fps here.
    for your GPU: http://www.notebookcheck.com/AMD-Radeon-HD-7970M.70809.0.html
    for the 970m: http://www.notebookcheck.com/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-970M.126686.0.html

Its in german but that shouldnt be a problem. Game fps are listed all the way down so scroll a lot.

You shouldnt believe this comparison 100% since games get patched over time etc.
For example GW2 has a lot more GPU options and new prettier maps than 2 years ago. It says your gpu can run GW2 on max with 30 fps 2 years ago. I doubt that is still true today. Also in different areas you get different fps which they dont account for.

Hard to compare the values then.
But you can use it for a general feeling.

If you click on a fps value u can see the laptop where the gpu was used in. CPUs influence fps too after all as you can see for the GW2 case which was tested on 3 different laptops.

Here is the the PDF the guy at Nexoc sent me so I'm sure the price has changed. And to the guy who posted the links yes I am aware of the those links I've seen them, the problem with those is that those benchmarks are games from 2012. What I'm asking is basically will the 970m perform like 50% better than the 7970m

It says in the PDF that youre buying the Gsync version. Perhaps that one is more expensive.

Well, I got a 970m. If u want we can compare fps for a game we both have. Most prominent ones I have are GW2 and Fallout 4. Otherwise Im not sure how you measure 50% of a gpu being better than the other.

I'd say its anywhere from 20-40% improvement depending in the game. My 680M over clocks so well that I think 970M would be closer to 20% improvement for me so imo not worth it. I suppose 970M might also over clock like a beast but don't tell me that!

950/1100 at 1.05v and this is for gaming not benchmarking. Don't want to go higher for benchmarking whilst I'm currently addicted to witcher 3

    Stock is 720/900 at 1V.
So youre using +230/+200 at +50mv.
    Highest I tried is +250/+300 at +50mv :D in GW2.
No longterm test though, I was just curious how oc plays out on frames. It might even go a little higher. I might test that soon.

(Turned out GW2 doesnt even use full load on the OCed 970m, even with my 4790k at stock  Apparently GW2 is more CPU dependant even though CPU load isnt at 100%)

Highest you tried. I'm running those clocks all the time while gaming and let's not even worry how many hours I've clocked in witcher 3 recently. Using high details and textures and getting a nice 60fps, highest temps are 82-85 degrees.

Your 680M will be eaten for lunch by the 970M if it's properly clocked.. Even at stock, the 680M/780M are hard pressed to reach a 970M lol

Not trying to outperform a vastly superior card. I just said my 680M overclocks well and is stable in games at high OCs....

Yup, just want to say that 970m can OC pretty well too :D
No issues with +300MHz/+400MHz/+82.5mv (1.075V) in Fallout4. On average a 8fps increase. Most of the time closer to 12 fps bringing it around 50~60fps with everything maxed out.
No issues in 1h Unigine Benchmarks, only Firestrike crashes, even with +250MHz/0/+150mV. Looks like a specific issue with Firestrike for me but since it works fine in games I dont really mind that. Reran firestrike with max fan, passed without issue. Dont know what the issue is. Im not even hitting 70°C on auto fan but it shuts down. (Only in firestrike though)

While testing the core OC I could go as high as +450MHz/0/+162.5mV (1.15V). 66°C on autofans. I only ran it 10 min in Unigine and stopped. Getting pretty scared running at this @ 1.15V. I read one shouldnt go over 1.1V for 24/7 OC so Im content with +300MHz/+400MHz/+82.5mv (1.075V), maybe some finetuning at this mV level. Obviously needs more time for a long term test like you did but this looks promising :D

It really is! Maybe not a huge gain in terms of additional fps but it just feels smoother. Doesn't run super cool though at 1.05v 950/1100. After about 2 hours of witcher 3 I clocked 89 degrees!

I would look at doing some heatsink modding.. Those temps are too much in the long run.. I would try modding the heatsink if I were you otherwise a first step would be getting some good thermal pads like Phobya XT(They're not too expensive, can get them on eBay from a German reseller for cheaper than in the UK) and some good Gelid GC extreme thermal paste.. I would reduce the OC for now till you fix this unless you want to burn out your GPU lol

I've been meaning to get some Gelid GC Extreme as my tube of ICD is a bit old now. I use Phobya Ultra 1.0mm 5W/mk pads at the moment. How are the XT ones different? Aren't they firmer? I'd be more worried about getting the exact right thickness then. On eBay the Phobya pads are only like 20 pence cheaper from Germany if you mean these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Phobya-1M...981821?hash=item1a03ce003d:g:2wwAAOSwT6pVvgKZ

970M can easily OC 30% reaching stock 980M speeds.

Considering 970M at stock performs on average 15% faster than 880M the 680M cannot reach it due to vram limitations. The 780M would need a fairly decent OC to reach 970M performance.

That said 680M is still good. 1000mhz on the core with the vram clocked to the limit will perform easily as well as the 870M with both OCed. Had nvidia not neutered vram on the 680M the 780M would have been a fairly pitiful upgrade

Dropped gaming OC to 850/1000 and temps haven't gone over 81 degrees even after 2-3 hours. Do notice occasional dips in FPS though but it doesn't bother me. GC extreme and phobya XT on the way.

EDIT: Phobya XT and GC Extreme arrived already! Going to apply and overclock! People reckon GC Extreme is fine to put directly on vrms! Interesting!

@TomJGX Finally got round to applying GC Extreme and Phobya XT. GPU temps already looking to be 3-4 degrees lower! Going to give paste time to settle/cure or whatever it does before really pushing it.
    Thanks for the recommendations!

would need more then a 30% OC to reach stock performance of the 980M. Maybe 50% Maybe more.
    Either way, just saying.

Like sure it's possible to get 8,000 of a graphics score with a 970M under perfect conditions, but a few people have gotten 14,000 with a 980M on the graphics score in firestrike. Stock is like 9500+ the 970M gets like 6500+ I think, right?

People thinking the 970M is going to get you 980M performance, are being mislead. 95% of you will get 30% less performance, thats because thats how fast the card is. Still very fast, and stronger then 880M or 780M and yet it still costs less, uses less power, and will last longer too !

Stock for 980m is on average around 8500 if you believe ~30tests from notebookcheck. Its somewhere in between 8000 and 9000 depending on the accompanying CPU.

Getting over 8000 with OC970m is pretty doable from my experience.
But I don't think that just because the firestrike of OC970m is equal/higher than stock 980m, that it will perform same/better. I'd like to imagine that there's more to it than a score can reveal.

Highest single 980m firestrike I could find is 12118. Still very impressive.

Even on full load it stays below 60° with 50% fan :D I have open headphones and I like it quiet during moderate usage
It's more quiet than the GPU fan so at some point I'll try to match them.

    Hi there peeps!

I wanted to ask, which email have you used to contact Nexoc gaming services for the price inquiries for the GPU's? Because I have used the ones I foubd in this thread, as well as on their website and unfortunately my Gmail keeps on sending back my emails due to a non existing email...

Any thoughts about it? Cuz I am planning to swap my GTX 770m from my Aloenware 17 R5 to either a GTX 970 or 980....

What emails have ya'll used? :)))

I used the contact form on their website. As far as i remember it took them a couple of days to get back to me. You should also try and get in touch with woodzstack, he's a member of this forum. I got my 980m from him, it was cheaper than what nexoc quoted me. Not sure if he's still selling, but i guess it's worth a try.

@dym007 , ty for the suggestion on the team section. But my worry was that I was receiving emails back due to a false email or an incorrect one, since I was receiving my sent mail back. Will try to fill up their form as well as contacting Klaus in person!

I've looked up his profile and probably I will skip this option, since I live in Denmark and shipping from overseas of Europe will result in insane additional VAT and taxation. Will have to find another way to buy a gpu. I hope that the form submitted in the Nexoc website will help :)
