I currently have the ATI 5850 and want to upgrade.

Can anyone advise me on what GPU's I can just drop in and change the driver?

I would prefer an Nvidia card as the game I play seems to run better with Nvidia cards and one that doesn't have any heat issues.

    Thanks

460m is a very good option, if you wish to get it from DELL, we can provide the pricing if you send an e-mail to [email protected]. That's the best one that we got certified for your system.

The 460M would be a downgrade or at best a sidegrade, however. If you want to upgrade, your only easy choices are the 6970/90M and the 7970M.

Is this with overclocking the 5850m? I'm just wondering because according to these numbers, the GTX460m is a considerable upgrade

    5850m
    460m

edit: in the summary it says there are comparable but their fps and benchmarks are no where near comparable...

^ Perhaps (although some sites feel the 460m would in fact, be a downgrade), but why do something so marginal, and waste money? I have heard one shouldn't upgrade unless it's at the very least a 2-3 tier upgrade, otherwise it's just not worth it. I must say, I am inclined to agree.

i can agree with that..... but if your looking for a trouble free upgrade for the the m15x, than the best thing to do would be to upgrade to a new system completely....

when i choose the 5850m for my m15x it was based on the price point issue, if i had the extra money at the time i would have gone with the 460m for cuda

The 460M wins some benchmarks, the 5850M wins others. The 5850M, however, has a lot more overclocking headroom. CUDA is nice though. There is no real trouble free upgrade, though.
