Last year, I saw Raidriar mention this card as a possible upgrade for our M15x and bought the card. Tonight, I finally put it in, and it seems to work just fine.

    A couple of pics:

    - Note that you need adaptor cables to reuse your existing antennas.

My ISP router surprisingly supports max speed!

The card I bought was this:

And the antenna adaptors were these:

Note: I made a Windows 10 x64 driver package here - otherwise wifi and bluetooth drivers can be found at ASUS Z97 download page:

Congrats on the install! I myself have the BCM94352HMB connected to my M15x. It has 866Mbps WiFi ac and it does not need the antennae adapters. I also removed the Dell Wireless 370 BT module because it has BT 4 LE built into the 94352 card!

I like this upgrade! Something on the shopping list methinks!

Nevertheless most service providers offer max 1Gps (1000mbps) at least in Switz that is the case. 1.3Gbps is fantastic future proofing.

Another thing what is the max data tranfer speed of the mini pci-e slot? 1.3 Gbps must be pushing it!

That's also granted that the WiFi card and router can actually sustain that speed consistently. Even though it connects at that speed, there are very few places that will let you DL/UL at that speed. Not to mention range becomes a factor, but I'm glad we can actually take a laptop from 2011 and incorporate all the new technologies of today still!

Make that 2009. The first M15x shipped in September 2009 :D

Yup approaching 8 years old already. Yet it still have a 4 core 8 thread processor, 16GB ram, Plenty of storage options (I have 500GB SSD and 2TB HDD internal), 1.3GBPS wifi! Pascal compatible (highly likely possible) etc etc

I will still have this thing when it reaches a decade old.

edit: forgot that most 1080p displays also capable of 120hz by overclocking due to it being high quality.

Wow I had no idea that this laptop was that old! I will have this laptop until it's on it's last legs and there are no more parts available. Even if I may buy another laptop for more powerful updated things, this laptop still smokes a lot of machines in the market today. Glad to see that we can still buy things for it to upgrade.

Its cpu was overpowered at release while everything else has proven to have excellent upgradeability. A wonder of a machine.

Dual SSDs, 1.3gbps wifi and BT4, 16gb of ram, 1060 pascal and 120hz 1080p screen. Who could have guessed it would have such longevity.

Top end laptops beat it only where cpus are concerned and thus high end gpus. However 1060 is enough at 1080p. In other areas it is just marketing gimmicky stuff like faster storage interface speeds etc

Wait, we can install a 120Hz 1080p screen? I thought the FHD displays were 60Hz. How are games looking at 120Hz? Where can I get a 120Hz 1080p display....eBay? Thanks!

Working on it. See my DP to LVDS conversion idea. It will of course work but needs funding! M15x is not fussy about running any gpu....except hot ones (980M and 880M)

As you have a 970M you can easily OC it. Usually it is uncommon to be able to overclock laptop screen more than 15 - 20 hz over their standard rated refresh rate. It is widely reported however that the M15x can clock up very well to 110-120hz!

Can the Broadcom BCM94360HMB randomize the wifi mac address in Windows 10?

I would also like to know this. Anyone know how many PCIe lanes go to the wifi slot?

After some research it is likely that the mPCI slot can support up to 2.5 Gbps. Finding a service provider that deliver 1.3GBps is almost impossible IMHO though. So yeah plenty of headroom then.

    Hello Guys,

The 1st time in the forum and some help could be very great-full to me.

I've and Asus X552LA and in the past I've bought and Intel 6230 433Mbit/s to upgrade my HP G62.
    I worked perfectly-
When I bought my Asus X552LA I've immediately try to upgrade to the Intel 6230 433Mbit/s, but no success.

Big doubt, could be hardware incompatibility? How can i know the list of WiFi cards to my laptop?
(I've even format the laptop to avoid drivers problems, and not detecting the WiFi card).

As i was unsuccessful on upgrade i went to google to search solutions.... and none found, until....
i see this post. Seeing an laptop with 1.3gbit WiFi card, i wonder i it will work on my laptop as well.
Can someone give some hints here?

    thanks in advance guys ;-)

probably not since regular laptops most often than not have whitelisted wlan cards.
most likely also the reason why your intel card didnt work in the first place :/

It's Strange, because I've already contact guys from BIOS Mods and they told me that ASUS does not have witelist.

They told me that I can install it.

I've already had an HP laptop and I've to change the bios to accept other wifi card.

On HP laptop the message was clear that I've change the hardware.

One think is for sure... I can see difference on the mini PCIe contacts.

The Atheros has full contacts but the Intel miss some.

Why would I need cable adapter if my Dell laptop already has 3 antennas?

I just installed the same card with the adaptors and used your drivers, it works really well but is there any way to extend the bluetooth range?
